Archie, My 1990 Lucky Strike RGV250 VJ21

Thu Jan 27, 2011 9:45 am

For the last couple of days I've been dropping subtle hints on FaceBook, but i guess its now official.. Here's Archie - My RGV250 track bike!! Now I know its not a Kwaka, but we've all gotta start trackin it somewhere!

It was advertised on OCAU for 3k, but after a price drop to 2700, it blipped on my radar, and i saddled up the trailer to the Jazz to head up to have a look.

The For Sale ad mentioned the following:
- HEL braided brake lines (front is in the race setup)
- CNC machined brake and clutch levers (really adds feel to the braking)
- Lucky Strike paintwork, real head turner bike..
- New Pirelli Sport Demon tyres, both front and back
- New brake pads and fluids
- New rear disk brake rotor
- New wheel bearings and cush drive rubbers
- New suspension dog bone bearings
- New fork seals and oils
- New gearbox oil
- Registration till May 2010
- White powdercoated wheels
- Carbon fibre exhaust cans
- Almost new chain and sprockets (done 5000kms ago)

Bike had been low-sided whilst doing a u-turn on a patch of gravel at low speed (about 5kph) causing the sratches on the RHS panel and some scratches on the nosecone and mirror. Damage done was only cosmetic *phew!*

The engine had done about 13500kms before the rebuild. Bottom end was sent away to be rebuilt, trued and balanced and he'd done the top end rebuild himself. Kicks over and starts first go everytime, now just needs to be run in.

Add to the deal an ENTIRE Carload of spares and bits, a whole set of fairings and a CBR400 frame and engine and i now have myself a bike! Theres enough RGV Spares to build 2 engines and 2 gearboxes, a set of CF Pipes, a Shitetonne of odds and ends and gear for the CBR400.

Zero rear vision!

The seller claimed it would kick first go - It Did. BOOYAH! He also claimed it was still regisitered - yes again! WIN! He also said it was perfectly fine, ready to ride away and run in. and, HE WAS ACTUALLY TELLIN' THE TRUTH!

Enough chit chat, the bike!!!

Thats bloody awesome Stace (hmmm i keep thinking i'm talking to myself when i type that) You'll have an absolute blast on that.

You really should be flamed for talking about a Suzuki on KSRC though, its very close to bringing the club into disrepute lol. :kuda:

Hey, I was on the lookout for a greeny, but they seem to be rarer than Hens teeth!

I gotta start somewhere, and this is my first step. theres only so many track days i can do on my poor little 250r Road Bike before i bin it :( I just cant bring myself to do that to such a sexy little bike, This RGV however, is going to cop the flogging of a lifetime once its run in!!

Me? Talk Dirty? You nasty man.. :p

The CBR400 frame+engine will go on ebay, and everything i have no use for (i think theres some blade parts too) will go up at just 99c starting bid pick up only (or small enough stuff can be posted) just so i can get rid of it, along with a Postie or two!!

Very nice find there, i'm sure the cbr400 would be very attractive for someone whom has the money. Christ i don't have the money and *I* want it.

Enjoy the tracktoy.

I've been doing it for nigh on four years and it's done minimal damage... or has it?

Just looking, does anyone know if that speedo cable is routed right?
It looks like a real weird position going into the fairing :?

Well it works fine, its bang on... *shrugs*

The front left brake disc was fuxored when we got Archie home, so the first thing we did was order a set of these....

Now I cant run them in PCRA - the bike must be visibly indistinguishable from stock, so another set of stock rotors are on their way too - but I like the purdy ones for now, and at only $150~ish bucks - who cares?!

He's off for a Dyno run at Midday then a Rego inspection and new custom numberplates :)
