At the risk of being disloyal to Kwaka, I want Bayliss to win WSBK.

Can you believe it ! :( Thank god for Badovini

World Superbike 2008 - Round Five - Monza

World Superbike 2008 - Round Five - Monza

Day 3 Report - Kawasaki

A DAY TO FORGET

Sure about its possibilities the Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team remains astonished in front of the unlucky events that conditioned the potentialities it demonstrated during last days.

In race 1 Regis Laconi starts well but technical problems forces him to return into the pit garage just after few laps from the beginning of the race. Good start for Makoto Tamada too who next to the end of the race pushes too hard to gain positions although the lack of grip on the front which betrays him and he crashes.

In race 2 the situation is similar but this time is Regis Laconi who crashes and Makoto Tamada returns into the pit garage.

The sole satisfaction in Kawasaki comes from Ayrton Badovini of Kawasaki Pedercini team who gains the 9th position in race 2.

Regis Laconi: “We’ve been really unlucky. In race 1 I had to return into the pit garage because of a technical breakdown whereas in race 2 I push really hard ‘cause I wanted to give a good result to the team and I was almost achieving my goal. In fact before to crash I was near to gain positions and I rode half second faster than the leading group. It’s a pity ‘cause we could have achieved something very positive”.

Makoto Tamada: “ I became anxious in race 1 as I had just overpass Troy Corser but I still felt him behind me and I tried to increase the detachment between us but I crashed. In race 2 we filled up to the top the tank as we knew that the bike would need all the fuel for these races on this track but it wasn’t enough anyway. There’s nothing to say except that these things happens in this job even if you do everything you have to, working with professionalism as the team does”.

Tough Raceday For Monza WSB Duo
Monza, Italy, 11 May 2008
Makoto Tamada and Régis Laconi found their early ambitions at Monza not matched by their raceday fortunes, as neither rider managed to finish a race today. Laconi has a technical problem in race one and then had to start race two from pitlane, after his original machine developed a fault. He was running strongly and looking set for a points score, until he fell on lap seven, at the Parabolica corner.

Tamada had been fourth in first qualifying at Monza, but dropped off the pace near the end, finally crashing. In race two, Tamada was forced to enter the pits and had fuel issues at the fastest track on the calendar.

In the overall championship contest, Tamada is now 16th, Laconi 18th.

Regis Laconi: “We had a problem with the bike in race two on the warm-up lap. I had to change the bike. This morning I broke an engine and in race two we had a problem again with the second bike. I came back to about 14th during the second leg and I tried too hard to catch the riders in front and I made mistake at the Parabolica. We can’t understand why the bike is not fast here and why we have a lack of acceleration. Our engine is normally good in this regard.”

Makoto Tamada: “I had a crash in race one and a fuel problem in race two. We seemed to have lost power from Saturday to Sunday but, really, parts of this weekend have been positive in many ways. We made some real steps in qualifying, and with the general set-up of the whole bike.”

The next round follows in three weeks time, at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, USA.

Fujiwara Gets A Point At Monza
Monza, Italy, 11 May 2008
Katsuaki Fujiwara (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) managed to score a point for 15th at Monza, after finding problems holding a line during corner entries. Fujiwara was 21st on lap one but battled hard, despite having an imperfect set-up for the challenging Monza circuit.

Chris Walker (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) had an incredibly dramatic race, being hit by another rider, crashing, re-starting, making on-the-move repairs and finally being penalised with a ride through for cutting one of Monza’s many chicanes. He retired in pit lane on lap five.

Katsuaki Fujiwara: “It was difficult today. At the start of the race I felt good but when the front tyre got less grip the front fork doesn’t seem to stroke properly, so maybe this is our problem. In some places we lost ground on the corner entry and I could not get past some other riders.”

Chris Walker: “I got hit from behind by another rider, then crashed, and that bent my footrest assembly. I realised that the footpeg itself was beginning to unwind and come loose. As I rode along I tried to turn it back in with my foot. I ran straight on at the chicane and got a ride-through penalty, so after that it was finished.”

As World Supersport does not head to America for the next round, the Nürburgring, in Germany, will host round six of the WSS series, on June 14.
