Looking for mechanic in Melbourne..

Sat Jul 03, 2004 1:30 am

Guys & Gals,
I've been living over in Perth for the last year and have been getting my bike serviced and upgraded by Mark at MDH Tuning in East Vic Park. He's a perfectionist and his work has resulted in the best handling, accelerating and braking bike I've ever owned.. (Well his work and many aftermarket parts and $'s ;-) )..

Sadly (from the bike maintenance point of view) I'm moving back to Melbourne and need to find a mechanic over there that will pay as much attention to detail as Mark has been doing. Thought the best option would be to pose the question to everyone out there and see if anyone has a mechanic in Melbourne they feel is worthy of recommendation.

If possible I'm looking for a guy running his own shop rather than a bike shop where the experienced mechanic runs the front counter while the apprentices screw the bikes up out the back...

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers,
Steve.

go to Brighton Kwaka....
NepeanHwy Brighton 9557 4383
ask for Ken.... he's the guy who owns the place
but is also a good mechanic
and get him to introduce you to the chief mechanic....
who is bloody good
and will be found out the back....

this is a kwaka only shop...no Hondas or Spewzukis
and they have been doing it for years...

cheers

Hi Steve, and welcome. I hope we'll hear more from you so you can join ius on a Vic ride when you move 8)
I've also dealt with Brighton Kawasaki a fair bit when I used to live out that way. They are excellent. I'm also very fussy and it's about the only Melbourne shop that I've ever been totally happy with.

I'd go there, if I didn't live on the other side of town...

24K service will be due soon... And front fork seals still needs fixing..

Interesting - I originally bought the bike from Brighton Kawasaki and know Ken and Phil well..

Only problem is they did the standard bullshit pre-delivery that most shops do on a bike.. ie put oil and petrol in it, bolt on a number plate and AWAY YOU GO!... No thoughts of doing thing like setting the TPS, lubing cables, throttle, etc.. All actually part of a ZX12R PD but Kawasaki only gives them a few bucks to do it so they do the bare minimium..

Bike shops are time limited, rather than 'getting the job done right' limited.. I do like Phil and think if he was allowed the time to do it right he can and would but in my experience shops don't give their guys the time...

Perhaps I can discuss it with Ken and see if he can let Phil have free reign to spend the time to work on the bike..

Steve.

I have always found him..pretty straight on this score...

(in spares) and the boys in the showroom...
have always looked after me....so i guess I am biased....

and mina....
NO..Brighton Kwaka have their own workshop
with all the gear....
they do NOT use Bikes an Bits...

I'll have a chat with Ken about it and see what he has to say.. Perhaps he will let Phil have his head and do the job right..

Thanks for the welcoming words from everyone.. I'm a Melbourne boy born and bred so it's a welcome home rather than welcome to a new home for me :-)

Hopefully if work and weather allows I'll join you guys for a ride down the peninsula on the 25th..

Stay upright..

Steve.

alternatively...depending on where u reside...try Balls Tuning in Sunshine... Rons own business works on the bike himself...
takes care of my 9...he's so fussy that a service usually takes 2 days cos he wont let it go until its perfect...well worth the wait...
anyways..
