GOPRO camera

Postby Mickwitchy » Sat Feb 09, 2013 1:46 am

Hey guys,

I'm after everyone's opinion on the best GOPRO (or other) camera to get. I will spend the money if needed, but I want excellent video and excellent audio.

It'll mainly be for the track (the one's that let you anyway...)

SO..........which one??????????

Cheers,

Mick

Get the GoPro3 Black Edition (best image by far) set it on 720p 120fps (no need to use 1080p - 120fps is smoooooooth) and get a mic to plug into it. Then it will be stereo and you can put that mic wherever you want on the bike (i.e. away from the wind but close to exhaust)
They're not cheap though

I use a contour hd. Had for about three years and am very happy with it apart from the mic that is playing up after heaps of heavy crashes on my trail bike.
I just this week bought the new contour Roam2 that is better quality and look heaps better. I hope to use it this weekend and ill but some vids up when I do.
Here is some pics of the new one mounted ready to go and some vids using the old one to give you an idea what they are like. The new roam2 sell for around $250.

Gopro Hero 3 Black. The quality of footage is awesome, even on the lower settings. Just make sure you get a 64Gig SD card. I fill up my 32 way too fast because the size of the files it records are much bigger than other cams.

I like the look of that contour. Doesn't the gopro look like a little rectangle digital camera?

With the mount on the tank, how much does it get in the way when you're tucked in down the straight at eastern creek doing mach a million?

The new contour also has instant record when you slide the switch forward. No more booting up. Had a quick ride around the block today to try it out and the quality is great. Lookin forward to tomorrow to take it out on my normal loop.

if you're riding on the track, chances are you don't wanna mount any camera on the tank since you will need the space when you tuck in... I mount mine on the right side of the triple clamp and it doesn't get in the way at all. I like the image from that angle 'cause it shows lap time/rpm and gives a good idea of what the bike and I are doing.

Just so you get the idea (video is youtube butchered at 480p 30fps)

The Gopro3 is also a boxy camera but it is MUCH smaller than the previous model...

It gets in the way big time. I have mine mounted as close to the damper as possible and I still managed to clip it with my chin and I can hardly tuck down at all due to my size. I will be moving mine to the triple clamp like everyone else in future when racing, but the rest of the time it will stay on my helmet.
