Hand polished my wheels, with pic.

Postby spekt-r » Mon Nov 08, 2004 8:47 pm

The photo really really really doesnt do these justice, theyre beautiful looking. I used a combo of 400 and 600 wet'n'dry paper to remove the paint and then 1200 to remove the scratches, I went on to some ultrafine 1500 to finish up then went absolutely mad with autosol and heaps of rags.
This took bloody ages and was very hard work but I feel pretty proud of the result and love spending time with my bike. This is very cheap to do and looks great, I recommend it.

now you've just got to keep em clean :D
apparently there's some sort of coating you can put on polished rims to keep em shiny and make em easier to clean. Can't remember what it is, but I'm sure someone here will know.

I did my footpeg brakcets and heel plates. They are such a pain in the arse to keep clean, that I just let them go all mouldy and clean them every now and then.

Nickel plating at electromould looks awesome, a mate had his gixxer thou's wheels done.
Clear lacquer tends to make polished alloy look yellowing after a while and you can replish it. Its gonna get all filty as sson as I take it on the road, I can tell.

I would do that to mine but they get dirty enough painted black I would hate to imagine the dirt that would show up when they are polished!
