Bike not starting whilst in gear.

Postby Kermit » Fri Apr 20, 2012 4:44 pm

Started this arvo when leaving from work, I notice the 6 will not start whilst in gear (kickstand up, clutch in) however it fires right up from Neutral.

I can hear the fuel pump being primed when hitting the start switch whilst in gear, but it wont turn over.

Any ideas what would be causing the bike to not start while it is in gear?

Thanks in advance for help.

First guess would be to check that a wire for the clutch switch has been pulled out? Not sure on your bike, but some of the older bike I've played with have a switch in the lever base with two wires on mini-spades connecting...

Bike not starting whilst in gear.

They do that occasionally.

Sometimes it just requires the clutch pulled in and out again and sometimes the clutch wire is sensitive. There is something inbuilt that doesnt want them starting in gear.

Every latter modle bikes should have a clutch switch /sencer for "satey" reasons so if someone scews up a launch say for a set of lights it will start straight away with out having to find neutral.

I have spoken to soon; it is the clutch switch, it starts now whilst in gear; spoofed with a paper clip.

Warranty issue.

My bike has never started in gear, have tried to get it fixed under warranty but the dealer just simply must have forgot. It got picked up when I had its service at bikebiz but they didn't have the part to fix it
