15w20????? Interesting.... So this is a 'high-torque with high mileage bike' idea?

Another vote for 5100. I usually use the 10/50 if I can remember which one. The numbers bigger so it must be better right? :?

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/putting-the-simple-back-into-viscosity/

a bit weighty in places, but a fine read. explains oils, ratings, viscosity, standards really well.

end point is with the colder weather in southern australia, and high revving bike engines, 10w40 would be a good, safe bet

0/20 would be better, don't go the thicker oil as it is very hard on the oil pump + it doesnt supply as much lube on the parts that need oil "fling".If your bearings are sweet + the rest of the motor/conrods/crank it will be great and you will have more power ;)

Yeah .... well I also own a 95 Zx9 and she loves nothing better than Motul 5100 summer , winter , autumn or spring. It really does not get cold enough in Oz to justify a 0W-20 .... ZX9's have run just fine on 10W-40 mineral oil for over 15 years. A 5W-40 semi syn is more than enough to spoil her.
The main thing you need to know is "OIL IS CHEAPER THAN ENGINES" Change it regularly and you won't have too many issues for many years . Put wiz bang intestinally fortified , chrome plated , double over head foxtailed super primo oil in every so often when you managed to save enough coin to buy it ... your motor will be junk pretty damn quickly .. ;)
Other thing is . Choose a quality oil and stick to it . Mixing oils = sludge risk.

ps 84,ooo km just means she's now run in and you can start riding her with a little more 'spirit' :kuda: :kuda:

Not sure if you were aware but the oil viscosity you refer to is not only very rare in 2012 but suprising as it may seem did not actually exist to the general public at all in 1995. Strangely enough bikes like ZX9r managed to survive unblemished !?

PS I earned a trade certificate over 20 yrs ago and this is what I do for a living ;) :)

this bloke is just trying to sell the oil he stocks!
plus he is talking to americans (!) who drag race by my reading (i mean who else is putting nitrous on a zx14?)
the lack of science in the above is brain numbing. where are his facts? where is the research. it sounds very much like 'the mate of a mate saw' or i heard some bloke at the pub reckons'. by the same reasoning my bike has 300 hp, and will get beaten in a drag by a standard s15 sylvia; because a bloke at the pub said so!

lets deal with reality and verifiable facts

opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one and most of them stink!
