Ninja 250R Headlights

Postby Hosh » Sun Apr 03, 2011 11:14 am

Hey I'm kind of new to this stuff, I have a 2011 Ninja 250R Special Edition and i want to change the head light globes. I want blue tinted hi visablity globes, does anyone know what is a good brand (and what globe type)?
I have read if the watts are to high it can burn the headlight cover? I have also seen on the internet you can buy zexon HD conversion kits, would any one recommend doing or not doing this??
Also i have tried taking the globes out so i can see the type of globes i need to purchase but it is almost impossible to do it without taking a faring out, any tips?

Cheers

Hi Hosh welcome to KSRC
If you are riding at night all the time then possibly I would consider it but really is it worth the effort (probably not)..... yes you will need to take the faring off twice by the sounds of it unless you can track down some numbers from an already converted one.
Personally I cant see the point...... wanker value 10/10
Distraction for other drivers / riders 10/10
Just my opinion ;)

Thanks for the reply,

I have found some blubs that will do pretty much what i want to do. I'm looking at the 55W blub, but i would like the 100W. Do you think the 100W bulb will get too hot?

Cheers :)

G'day Hosh .... welcome to KSRC ..

Doubling the wattage of your headlight blub will almost certainly blow the fuse for that circuit ...and it will piss off all oncoming motorists ..for the 6 milliseconds
before the fuse blows ...

Not recommended, imo ...

Your stock headlight pisses other motorists off as it is anyway. The amount of times I've had ppl flash their lights because theyre blinded by my stock headlight is amazing. Yeh it might look cool, but chances are if it doesn't blow the circuit straight up, you'll just annoy everyone else. *shrugs*

The first thing I always did was swap headlight globes for 100W/55W.
Never had a problem with fuses, nor with melting plastics - this was on the GPX250, ZZR600, and the 3 ZX9's

Never seen the point of the different coloured ones really (white-white, blue-white, etc) - tried one once and the light it cast was too weird. Saw a comparison once too that they didn't actually improve visibility distance.

The 100W's always did me fine on the Freeway - just remember to dip them for oncoming traffic, just like you normally would.

Your stock headlight takes H7 bulbs. Best thing to do to get the effect you want is jump on ebay, search for H7 bulbs, find a pair you like, but make sure the bulbs are somewhere between 50watts and 60watts.

Don't get 100Watt bulbs, even if your wiring and fuses manage to do the job, i have seen 100watt bulbs explode before in a 55watt system. Then you have to pull the headlight assembly right out and appart to get out all the broken pieces of bulb glass.

As for changing the bulbs, it may be tight and fiddly, but you should be able to change the bulbs without taking the headlight apart. They are designed for a quick bulb swap incase you're caught somewhere at night with a blown bulb. It is a tight squeeze though, cos it was designed for little Japanese hands.

hope that helps.

If you go xenon bulbs, factor in the cost of headlight washers, otherwise they are illegal.
