So I took her to the track - EC in fact. and had a freakin ball! After all the dramas with the Gixxer (we shall not mention that devil spawn any futher) I didnt have much of a choice. Either take the Ninja and ride to 6/10ths and hope the misfiring blows through or don't ride at all.. Well stuff that for an option!!
I may have been in the Slow group - but i definelty wasnt the slowest out there! Had a ball rounding up a VFR and a Ducati 1198S (admittedly they were very nooby) most sessions, and enjoyed every minute of it! Getting to turn in later and later and later, then when someon faster came up behind, expecting me to turn in early, and getting to surpise them (and myself) by turning in as late as possible - and carrying my speed through the corner - without being overtaken (or undertaken as it were)!
I had a complete and utter ball out there. Even today I am still riding around the track in my mind, trying to remember as vividly as possible the lines in the corners like I was still out there! The atmosphere of the pits - every single rider there is there do do exactly the same thing - RIDE! Its what brings us together - The freedom of being able to just hang off your bike, To do as fast as your bike will allow without waiting for Mr Policeman to flick on his disco-lights. The utter exhilerating feeling of leaning so far over you're over the ripple strip, stuffing it up the inside of your latest victim.. LOL
In my mind I was Casey Stoner for a day (albeit, not as fast, but fulfilling a childhood dream of getting out on the track is more than enough!). I was on a bike i know intimately, and going hell for leather down the straight and keeping it pinned through turn one. Keeping the throttle wound as far as it'll go for as long as i dare.. Then hard on the brakes out to the right as late as possible and just throwing it through turn 2, before i know it i've flicked it over to the right for turn 3, GASGASGASGAS!!! up over the rise, down and into turn 4, hanging off like a monkey as far as i dare... Telling myself over and over turn late, turn late, not yet, not yet, not yet... NOW!! TURNturnTURNturn through 5, on the throttle up to and through 6, ready for 7, on the gas hard out of 7, Crouched down, chin on the tank, up to the Footbridge, late into turn 8, giggling with excitement, every time i turned later and later.. Hard on the brakes for turn 9, hopefully catching that VFR, hoping to get past before turn 10, "Don't brake, don't brake" ease off NOW brake, late into Legs 11 and late as i dare into 12, early on the gas, and pray to god noone buzzes me on the pit straight (wishful thinking).
I just cant wait for my next fix. A wise man once said, Motorcycling makes a herion addiction look like a mild craving for salt...
Pink on the outside, but still green on the inside!
