so what's your favourite boots?

Postby matchan » Tue Sep 01, 2009 10:22 pm

So, after 9 years of service including 5 of full time everyday commuting 2 crashes and a couple of track days, my Alpine Star Gortex boots are finally stuffed, I think they cost me about $350 back in 1999/2000 so not a bad return on investment.

I'm after something to do the commuting & trackdays, however I'll forgo the crashes, main criteria are protection, waterproof, price in that order.

What have people used that they really liked or disliked?

Cheers
Matt

I've got Oxtar TCS boots, the waterproof ones (GoreTex I think)
Cost me about $400 from memory
Bought them after the Putty BBQ, so they've lasted the commuting since then, and saved one ankle in the last accident. Only time water ever got in was when I didn't gear up properly and it got in the top.
Very comfortable, but the TCS (torsion control system) creaks
If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

Gaerne..

My current set have done 4 years and 65+ thou K's

They dont have all the big bulky protective shit on them, but they do have all the regular stuff on em, and they have lasted well. I'd probably go another set.

My A* boots lasted 2 yrs before the velcro gave up.

Now in Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots and they ROCK! Most comfy boot ever! Awesome protection, and above all else, look sweet! :D

I went for Medal boots, 6 years or so now and still going strong, this guy is in Melbourne though, actually measures your leg and makes them to fit, so not off the shelf, same bloke makes boots for the coppers and Aus post so must have some idea what he is doing :) Cost me $300 6 years ago or so and show bugger all signs of wear.

I love my Sidi's - they're not very waterproof but protection is great and comfort is awesome. I've had mine about 3 or 4 years, replaced a set of soles, crashed in them, spent weekends at the supers in them and ridden 40 odd thousand km's in them. Love 'em.

The best brand I've had over the years are Sidi. I've just replaced my latest pair with a new pair pretty well exactly the same B-Two's. At $349 they are an awesome value boot. The previous ones I've had for five years and they're fine but I've given them to my young bloke to start off with. As Dave said they're not waterproof but there's not much that is

My experience with Alpinestars has been pretty ordinary. I've had a road pair that fell apart and a dirt pair that fell apart as well.

I've had Gaerne as well in dirt boots and quality wise I rate them pretty highly also.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

+1 on the Sidi Vertigo's - and if you get them in from the UK you can save $100 and they come in green :kuda:
