leather vs textile jackets?

can someone tell me what the difference between the leather alpinestars jackets and alpinestars textile jackets? im looking at them and the only difference seems to be the price/leather does it really make that much of a difference if i come off of the bike as im looking at them both and they both have protectors

Been down a few times - none at high speed (insert laughter from assorted forum members here )

In full leather - only injuries were a scratch on the wrist where the summer leather glove rolled back. Lots of bruising from impact, and assorted aches and pain from bouncing down the road.

In leather jacket and Draggin's - large friction burn on knee from kevlar in jeans ( denim did not have a mark on it ). Lots of bruising from impact, and assorted aches and pain from bouncing down the road.

I vote full leather. However, I still wear the Draggin's to do a run to the shops.

BTW - my leathers are 25 years old, without armour and have been well maintained.

top speed i do around 110 (strait line) corners i take easy i just love the power up to the legal speed limit (only god knows whos reading this) if i do manage to come off i cant see my self sliding for more than 5-8 meters but i would try to avoid laying my beautiful machine over so (im a pussy lol) i dont think i would need full on leathers? altho i asked for everyones advice so im taking it all in so far im looking at a joe rocket yamaha leather jacket or a alpinestars textile jacket so ill base my choice on everyones advice

5-8 Metres!!!!!! (Not meters you tool!!!!)

A fall at 60 kph, assuming you remain on dry tarmac, is going to creat a slide of at least 15-20 metres, maybe a lot more! A fall at 100kph, well, you are gunna need about 30 or more metres before you stop. All assuming you remain on dry tar! If you leave the roadway and slide into grass, you will take a hell of a lot longer to stop, assuming you don't hit anything!!!

As far as Leather versus textile, leather has a higher abrasion resistance and has better shear strength. It will resist teraing or holing to a greater extent than textile in most cases. However, the modern textile garments, in the top line products are relatively good as far as protection and possibly a lot more versatile in there use. A textile jacket can be a waterproof one also, with removable thermal liners for summer and winter use. They also tend to be more comfortable on a long trip.

There are positives and negatives to both. In the end, just make sure you buy something of good quality, as I generally find that the cheap stuff is exactly that!!!!

I've got both and my probable flawed logic goes something like this -

If I'm off to the twisties it leathers
If I'm off to the shops or a gentle ride around the suburbs it's textiles

Doesn't always work because I often seek out the twistiest route when undertaking the suburban ride

went into MCAS today while my cousin was ordering a part and seen some nice leather Rjay jackets only $300 on special are they any good? other options are leather genuine yamaha jacket from a shop in america or a alpinestars textile jacket the joe rocket yamaha jacket is a dud i asked the bloke he said its a copy and coming up to summer i just cant pick between the two types of jackets

thought about a collins leather jacket? perforated leather and the option of getting pants later on to make a 2 piece suit.
