draggin jeans

Hey,
Now i am a n00b, but I just wanted ask your opinion about draggin jeans, they are a Australian company that sells gear in melb and online using apparently military grade kevlar, from the website http://www.dragginjeans.net/index

So what do you guys think about it? Is it a substitute for leather?

G'day .... no, it is no substitute for leather, imo. They are probably OK for a 1-2 km run up to the shop, but not for any serious riding.

They will protect you against most abrasive roads but only for a limited time.
For impact, you need armour.
I have Draggin jeans and wear them on nanna runs to shops, parents and in the heat etc.
Other than that, armoured leather all the way.
Except for the times...

Its the impact that will do the most damage, in the video lets see him jump off the back of the bike & give a more practical example

My draggins have done a good job.
If you're only doing weekend blats, maybe buy a set of leathers.
If you're commuting, draggins are a practical option that you can leave on all day

Exactly what i'm doing today

BUT on Sunday it was leathers (even in the mist/fog/rain )

draggins are a compromise. wear them when you want to look "respectable" at the other end and you don't have a chance to change. you can get leathers on sale or good textiles for the same price.

I wear draggin cargos nine months of the year on the road and have no qualms. I wear seperate knee/shin armour under them. I've low sided onto my knee and had no problems. Shredded the outer fabric but not a fibre out of place on the kevlar. No fabric burns or burst seams. Impact bruise on my hip, but that would have happened in any gear without hip armour.
In winter i wear textiles, and I will wear textiles if i am doing advanced riding courses. The draggins are more comfortable off the bike.

don't know where you are based but the peter stevens clearance centre in A'Beckett st usually has a rack of leather pants at good prices (I work in town and wander through every few weeks to see what's there)

i live in richmond in melb

have a look at the clearance centre then. the salesmen aren't too bad there. (they are like sharks at the main store). the older guy is the best. might get all your kit for a decent price. its a bit like aladdin's cave.

other good place for new riders is bikemart in ringwood.

lol i was there the day sammo got dragged my mingay, awesome event sammo said his ass was burning afterwards, but he did hav a a picture magazine slammed down his pants too haha
