Yes, we've decided I really should get one.

So, should I get a Dainese or the Knox?

I kinda like the broadness of the Knox across the shoulderblades...

Try them on and see which one feels best. I've got a Dainese and it's quite comfortable. See how the Knox feels with the bulky bits going over your shoulders. Make sure you try them on under your jacket.

You probably should opt for one with the kidney belt rather than just the thin strap. It costs a bit more but the belt gives your innards and back a bit more support.

Either way it's a very wise investment as you get protection not only from impact but also abrasion if you happen to have a slide on your back

Yeah, that's the bad bit. I will probably have to buy online...

I have seen some dainese armour 'suits' which, well are like a suit of armour for bikers. Look good, cost a bit - $500-$700, but might be a bit more effort than you'd go to...I can see putting on a simple back protector for even fairly short trips.

Hmmm...I do like the look of the Knox...

How much are the Knox ones?

I was just in the Bike Biz website and they're selling the Dainese one you've got there for $119.95.

http://www.bikebiz.com.au/shop/enter.html

The only other one they've got on special is the other Dainese with the kidney belt for $89.95 but it's smaller

I think that is where I got the pics from. The knox is...umm...$199.95, so yeah...double the price nearly...the advertised specials in TW is what got me thinking about it again.

though not the model you have displayed.

cant find the exact model. its says HPC on the back... hmmm... its got a movable bottom part and straps over your shoulder and has a thick kidney strap.

cost $250 (or thereabouts). Feels very comfortable. Get one, cant go wrong.

All I got with it says, Black Space 2, nero (if thats of some help)

Cheers Kieran.

Yup, but don't forget I need to add $30 for the larger size...still not bad for some more protection.

Just an idea, but i'm looking for a backpack with a built in back protector that u can zip off and use on its own.

they go fo around $200 retail with dainese and alpine stars making them.

i thought it was a good idea cos lazyness creeps in and u may not bother putting it on to go round the shops, but if all u have to do is throw on ur backpack, it's easier.

cheers, vince

Hmm..valid point...total spine protection vs protruding bits protection...however this:

is probably going too far in that it'd probably get old real quick putting that on all the time. Ideally I'd want to use it nearly everytime I climb aboard...

The only thing I don't like with the Dainese on special is it doesn't seem to have shoulder straps, where the other ones do...seems like it could move around, which wouldn't be a good thing.

It is all very confusing...how many models can Dainese damn well make??? I could understand if the pricing was really different, but how many models do you need around $250???

Maybe I should just go for this:

grrr...this was supposed to be easy.
