and the lineage....??

GPX750r became the ZXR750 became the ZX7r
1986-1989 ........... 1989- 1995? .......... ended 2003?
not sure of these dates (can't check at work)

ZXR750 used the basic (then new Generation) GPX engine
but different frame panels etc..obviously
ZX7r got an updated (bigger bore shorter stroke) engine
from the ZXR and a styling update...

hth

I am sure there are others here with better memories
will provide more details....

cheers

Fair enough but there is a more constructive way things can be put across. I think it is a given that you must have at least 500 posts before you can alienate someone

I-K wrote:Huh?!? You need to do more than cast a cursory glance at a bike to tell if it has a full race system as opposed to just a can? Especially something like a 7R, which has a flange-mount muffler... no bolts joining the muffler to the link pipe, or the merest glimpse of a spring anywhere along the exhaust (Muzzys do use springs, from memory)=>full system.

I wouldn't know. Never seen a full muzzy system, and I don't live in Melbourne, which is where NT and this bike are.

In the US, maybe. Outside North America, they were ZXR750's.

Yeah no shit. ZX7/ZXR750, it describes exactly the same motorcycle, ragardless of location. Who cares?

I beleive the L2 model is the one to get, proper ram air setup on that one if I remember correctly.

Correct, if incomplete. ;)
The L2 is the middle year, 1994 of the L-model ZXR750, which, as you say, is the one with the proper ram-air. L1 was the 1993, L3 the 1995. There was nothing but cosmetic differences among them.

Ah ok. Wasn't too sure about that one, so its the whole L series. Fair nuff 8)

As a side note, suprised to see so many posts labeling his replys as harsh. Twas pretty tame in my opinion. Honest, but nothin to get all huffy about.

It was a general expression of puzzlement... a stock exhaust with a loud muffler always looks_way_different to a full system. Different enough for it to be worthy of comment when someone, anyone, has to go so far as to start taking their bike to bits before they realise it has one.

To tell you the truth, it took me a couple of readings to twig that you were referring to the ZXR.

Having just had upwards of 50 wreckers give me the over-the-phone equivalent of a blank look when I called to ask if they had any C-model ZX9 parts, I'm having a touchy week when it comes to Kwaka model designations.

I was more going for "direct", actually...

You might have a problem with that on my bike...but then i've got a bit of a bastardised setup. Muzzy headers, a link pipe with a mounting flange similar to standard and a Yoshi end can...does thte job tho.
