Was also thinking today, if the bike is running very lean or over-advanced, it could run too hot as well. Has your mate changed airfilter and pipe without re-fuelling, or even done something to the timing ?

Sounds like a hard one, and im sure deano's done the right checks... what does it do now when started and left to run till it gets hot, u shoud see with the coolant bottle weather its getting circlulation?? and as mentioned, does it start to dump it out? when getting up to that temp?
Dont know about the advance tho, mine runs no retard at all,as in full advance, but is custom mapped..
I would start looking at coolant flow first if it was me...

I'm not sure I spoke to him today and he's going to check a few things tonight. He's just got an overflow up in his duct tail. Just an OJ bottle I think

Next then is the car trick, take the rad cap off, start it and wait.. shouldnt have to wait long, they get up to temp quick, and see if its getting circulation that way.. at least u will know if the thermostate opens and when..if its got one in it, or else take it out and do the above....

Ok make sure the overflow can breathe, race bikes have to breathe back into the airbox as thats the rules (stupid I think as we can only run water). maybe drill a small 1/8th hole in the top of the bottle and see how it goes the system needs to " let off Steam" when it needs to and it cant if the pressure builds and there is no relese. Just look at your hot water heater at home...it has a relief valve same with the bike ,on a bike its the resi. It is a long run though from the radiator to the duck tail i usually put the bottle in the front fairing closer to the radiator.

Its definatley an odd issue and cooling systems can be finicky things. if all else fails go back to the original road set up and work from there. I wish u were in sydney as I would love to have a look, i love a challenge.

Its only a tracky so we shouldn't need to hook it back into the airbox but we might have to make sure it can breath.

Does it suck back in from the overflow into the rad?

Was hoping to race at the superbike round this month buts not gonna happen as i just sold my 600. But I'll be down for the gp ......If u can wait...... ;)

Yeah the idea of an overflow is to blow the fluid into it, then suck it back into the rad.
This keeps the rad full at all times.

As above but I'd also check the water pump.
The one in my 05 did a seal from calcification around the shaft, still worked but was leaking.
Calcification is fairly common on race / track bikes as they tend to sit around a lot and possibly have only water in them..
Its pretty easy to get too.

and even though the rules state you should run the overflow into the airbox, not too many ppl do.. ;)
Mine goes from the radiator into plastic bottle, rarely, if ever, gets any overflow in it..

The water pump is definaley worth a look into. Also on my 2010 zx6 I had calcification problems as Madkaw said and had to flush it six times. However it was filling the overflow and not letting it back into the radiator. But my 96 gsxr 750 was blowing the bottle and boiling water because it was sucking air through a doggie hose...like I said cooling systems can be Verrrry finicky took me forever to find the fault in the gsxr(it is a suzuki though)

PS re the brakes, when people said that the Nissin calipers are gods gift to breaking I took it with a grain of salt... I shouldn't have! :shock:

If you have a crim or gumby and haven't done the caliper swap yet, do it! Theres no words that I can utter to describe the transformation. Now the only concern I have is that maybe they are too good!

Not quiet sure about the nissins been gods gift to braking.. ive got them on my 10.. there good... but not that good.. but will up date when the brembo mono blocks go on soon.. now there prob gods gift to braking :D :D

Yep, you don't realise how bad the stock calipers are until you change them.. :-) actually you do, you just live with them..
The Nissins are definately the go and the CBR calipers are up there too, especially with a Brembo MC...
Pity Kawi didn't get it right, and put the good calipers on the 600 and that fat tourer thing instead of the 10... ;)
