got a newish 636

Postby Barrabob » Wed Nov 10, 2004 5:15 pm

Well went to the shop and picked up my new bike got about 1 km down the road and lowsided it at 20kph  there was just no traction there to speak of and the whole thing went pearshaped wasnt going fast or trying to scrape knee as i was in jeans just frictionless green tyres.

Ohh dear must be some sort of a recordfor how far you can get a bike from the shop before dropping it.

You're joking Bob!  My record isn't even that bad and to scratch up your child like that would be tragic. I really feel for you, it's a shame it got the decals, costly little things those are. The rash doesn't look all that bad in the picture but I bet it's worse in real life. How did the pipe fair?

The pipe got a good scrape on it,i will be takeing it down to the insurance assesor tomorrow morning but am hoeing it will be a few weeks before it gets done so i have a chance to run it in.

Its not the first time i have had new tyres on a bike but to say there was no grip happening there would be a understatement never felt anything like it except maybe roaring back from the shop on my 250 (about 800meters)and locking up the rear whilst tipped into a off camber corner with diesel all over it.

ohh well it will look brandnew again soon. :D

I broke my ZX6R in, in the rain and this included a unintentional u-turn on a 6m wide road and didn't have any slips at all, I did sandpaper them before I took it out for it's first spin though, that's a rule I live by before riding on new tyres. What were you doing when you lowslided it? You must have some really bad luck mate! I bet you are glad you did the smart thing and insured it before you took delivery of it!

sandpaper hey, where i useally get my tyres they have a grinding tool on the end of a air tool and give them a bit of a go with that before they fit them this may make a diference.

I droped it turning right from campbell street outside the courier mail into the little road that goes under the inner city bypass but the road was clean as no fuel or anything on it which was why i was very suprised when the back just let go like that.

I dropped my old 250 years ago. It was parked on my driveway and just fell over... That was costly enough to fix and I did most of the work!

Sorry to hear about yours...

Ouch Bob that Blows, But on the bright side you dont have to worry about it getting its first scratch anymore. The front tyre is still shiny in the pic no wonder it diecided to have a little lay down.
It amazes me that the Bike shops dont scrub them in like they do at Tyres for Bikes with the diegrinder. I know your not the first unlucky bugger to have this happen on the way home with a brand new Toy.
She ll be pristine again soon mate.

yeh I might even take it down to tyres for bikes in the morning and let them have a go at it with the die grinder might cost me 30 bucks but iwould rather do that than repeat the 20 km lowside.

Its a bit rediculous having to slow to a near dead stop before you turn just so you stay shiney side up.

Bought it at midtown happened at cnr of campbell &whatever they call the bit that goes under the innercity bypass about 800meters from midtown kawasaki.

Dont get me wrong I cant blame the dealer because i fell off but if it happens again and again someone would have to ask questions why reasonably experianced riders keep falling off and then they could add clean up tires with diegrinder before fitting to the QA manual.
