2011 ZX10R - Quickshifter Installed !!

Postby Maccarocks » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:48 pm

Hi all,

Well I know I said I wouldnt be adding anything else to the new track bike, but I have decided to go ahead and fit a quickshifter to the beast... Last thing.. I promise..!!! ;)

Still it will give me that extra few tenths of a second.. and I always wanted one anyway. So I have the HM model coming.. It is actually the 'Annitori' model by 'HM', which uses slightly different technology using a 'strain guage' sensor instead of the standard pressure switch.. (they are using this technology in the motoGP and moto2 bikes at the moment) It is less adjustable than the full blown 'HM' version, but as they say in the write up.. are any of us going to notice the difference between 60 and 65 milliseconds on a gear change..??

Anyway, it should be arriving inthe next few days, so I will let you know how it goes fitting etc.. But I have already downloaded the instructions and it seems very straight forward. The customer service from USA is fantastic..!!

Let you know when it is on..

OK,

HM Annitori Quickshifter has been installed. Absoloutely 'plug and play' this set up. It took no time to instal, I probably took a bit longer just becasue I was being sure everything went off and on exactly the same, but still a very good install. Extremely neat, just the way I like things to go.

Of course everything is under the tank and seat area, not much to see really, but I have one pic that shows that it is fitted. I have done a quick stationary test, all good, but the real test comes at the Island Thursday and Friday.

Ribs are still sore, but I am still keen to give it a go.. ;)

Will report back on the weekend..

Where did u get the H/M shifter and how much?
was googlin some sites, and one i cant remember, but have it writen down somewhere!!! is in ur area. hoppers crossing i think, trying to ring, but no answer. cost was about $550 to $600 i think.
But his site had a great rightup about them, something about BSB teams using them, and tec3 team in gp. as well as most motto 2 teams, dont kno if thats true or not!!

Hey Born Green...

I got the shifter from the USA.. via a friend of mine.. so it was a good price ;) and this is the new technology that is used by the motogp and moto2 teams.. as the sensor on the shift rod is not mechanical anymore, it is what is called a 'strain gauge sensor'.. so it can 'feel' and it measures the pressure that is put on the rod, then transmits that to the 'brain' which is under the seat.. Yes I know amazing technology, but it is out there.. so we should be embracing it.

No moving parts in this set up, and as I mentioned it was very simple to install and set up. I have tested it on the stand and it works fine.. the big test will be at the track this week. This 'Annitori' unit is set up basically for us track guys and racers who dont want to stuff around with things too much. It has 3 sensitivity settings, Low, Med and High. I will try them all out eventually, but for the moment it is set at the default 'medium' setting.

I have the Bazzaz fuel management system with an integrated quickshifter (or Bazzaz QS for short! :kuda: ) and absolutely love it! I had the dynojet before and this unit walks all over it. Easy to install, works flawlessly at the track and makes everything so smooth it makes you shift more often! It also lets you adjust the killtime per gear from 40 to 85ms.

I'm sure the HM is better again but when I was looking at them I just couldn't justify the extra cash... the HM quickshiter alone costs more than my whole setup with fuel management, map switch and quickshifter!

Wit the 'strain guage' sensor does it allow clutch less down shifts or its still relevant to the push or pull like the dynojet ones?

Killing the timing or fuel won't help downshifting.

I bent my quikshifter when I binned gumby. So I wired it up to a button on the handlebar. Just out pressure on the lever and hit the button. Hey presto!

Doesnt work on downshifts if you try it, just gives you a big jerk

Words to remember :D

Hope it works well for you Macca, I put a Dynojet unit (compatible with kit ECU) on the 07 and it's a laugh and a half.

Cheers,
Brian

OK, back from 2 days at Phillip Island and all I can say is WOW.. This unit is fantastic..!!!

You can feel the difference in acelleration even from leaving pit lane. I wasn't sure how long it was gong to take for me to get used to it, and wanting to keep that 'roll off the throttle and then shift up' thing going like I used to do... But I can tell you all that this quickshifter is absoloutely perfect !! :D

I can see now why so many guys have them, because there is no way that even with the best clutchless shift you can do, you will still be losing acelleration becasue you HAVE to roll that throttle off, even for such a short period of time to get the gear selected.. so you definitely lose acelleration.. With the quickshifter, you are full throttle and just shift, bang, bang, bang.. it launches you further forward with every gear change.. I did take some time getting used to the extra corner speed it was giving me into Siberia..and also into Turn 11, and coming out of Southern Loop, still leaned over, bang into 4 front pops up, then as soon as it touches down, bang into 5th just before Turn3.. the extra acelleration there was amazing  Turn 12 in 4th just wind it flat out, bang into 5th and the front feels light and wanting to lift slightly, then bang into 6th.. always launching you forward.. I loved it !!

This would be the best performance mod I have made for the track since fitting the ohlins suspension... So as you can tell, it was excellent.. I was straight into almost flat 49's and that was really just getting used to it.. Another good weather day on the 24th and I will be dropping another second for sure.. getting closer to my pb... Very happy..!! Highly recomended

So Macca, no adjustment at all in it ? Just reading your first post, and while certainly none of us are going to pick up a 5 ms difference, it could make a material differnece to shift quality.

Just curious.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian,

the only adjustment you have on this unit is the sensitivity of the pressure on the gear selector rod, in low, medium or high pressure...

These guys at "HM" have really done their homework on this unit as it was absoloutly perfect right from the very first gear change... it works smoothly and very fast.. the default 'medium' setting is perfect and would be for most riders. The faster you go, the smoother the gear changes are... but it certainly is not clunky or hard on the gearbox..

You can think that you are making a perfect clutchless change, like I did, but with the quickshifter, you dont drop any revs at all, the momentum is just kept on going. Even getting used to the quickshifter, I was much faster in 2 sectors at the island... so if I can get it all together and cut time in all sectors, my lap time will drop dramatically..!!

Too much fun Macca, sounds like you've got a great part onboard. Also sounds like it's significantly better than my Dynojet unit (although, with the kit ECU, I do have the opportunity to tailor the shift time in each gear - mind you, that really is a bit of a wank, and just another opportunity for me to piss round and fk things up :D ).

Cheers,

Yes Brian,

I have to say that it was really simple to fit and set up.. exactly as per the instructions, and it really works well..!!

Back at the island tomorrow, hoping for some nice weather. I have had some small suspension adjustments, just tweaking, and I am hoping for a good hard day of riding.. so I can test this quickshifter out once more. I was impressed straight away, but I know the more time I am on the bike with it I am just going to get better at using it.. as in the timing when to change gears, and getting used to that extra speed that launches you forward when you change..

Like coming out of turn 4 in second, bang it straight into third, but you get that extra boost of speed going into Siberia.. got to get used to that and the extra corner speed...!! Excellent... Also after MG into Turn 11 is faster, and especially from Turns 11 to 12, big jump in speed there too... so when I get used to the extra corner speed I am gaining just riding the way I used to, that will also drop my times.. You can feel it immediately on the straight.. just tuck in under the bubble and bang away, faster speed at the end of the straight..!! ;)

I have a just scrubbed in rear on, and I intend to use it to the max tomorrow... I will do my usual update next week...
