It simply puts clean air into the exhaust which leans out the reading.
You need to block it to dyno tune to your chosen a/f ratio

If there is no charcoal canister lesser gases are being filtered and more of it is returning back to the intake.

Charcoal canister is for the California-spec bikes. These are not fitted to aussie models as our emissions standards are not as stringent as those in California.....

KLEEN system - as Wattie mentioned - only recycles crankcase vapours with fresh air and injects this into the exhaust ports. None of this shit finds its way back into the intake system.

Here is a good guide to removing the KLEEN from a ZX12R. The connection to the airbox is not to *send* crankcase vapours back to the intake, its to take clean air *from* the airbox to mix into the exhaust gases - leans them out so that measured emissions are lower.

Thank you Gosling for setting these boys onthe right track..!!!

No performance gains at all.. It's only done to stop the excessive popping / burbling under decelleration...

And for tuning...

That's it.. 8)

Spot on Boys the only benefit to blocking this off is to give accurate A/F reading on Dyno's so if you are doing alot of fine tuning/lots of dyno time, it is worth blocking it.

Nope no performance gains, and I don't undestand why people would want to get rid of backfiring burbling that's the best part of the Air recirc sytems :kuda:

When we would get Jap bikes on the dyno we would use surgical clamps on the pipe from the Airbox thus giving us accurate AFR's. Was funny asking owner's of bikes that had stock systems getting powercommanders "can we drill a hole in your CAT?" Hahaha most would say what no, then we would follow up with well get a CAT delete/aftermarket exhaust.

Yep the performance issue gains were a new one when I read it.

Just a cheat way Kawa helps get past the EU emissions benchmarks.

Hey Guys, HAPPY NEW YEAR and all that, Just got back from Hols seems a bit of action around the block off plates has been happening :)

Just wanted to let everyone know for future sake that after i re-installed the pump and STARTED the bike the FI error 64 dissapeared, so unlike most other systems it does not self test or check on ignition alone the bike must be running. Also just to clarify i never started the bike with the Jumper wire in so no damage there everything was still metering ok.

Personally couldnt give a crap about the couple of grams of wait it was just a tidy up of a redundant system but its back there held tight in place by the airbox :).

Thanks for everyones help and input once again !! Now its off to the tuners .. going to try Dynoverks in VIC, unless anyone else can steer me in a better direction.

I'll give them a call and sus it out. I am in Williamstown so anywhere is going to be a bit of a mission to get to. Although i ride to mornington could be nice :)

Interesting to see another different opinion on the controversial 12R kleen air mod, there is only about 10000 of them all contradicting each other

If the piece of wire between the connectors (once the solenoid unplugged) fixes the problem. Try disconnecting the battery to erase the code and try again. Failing that, I've heard of someone wiring in a 22ohm resistor to fool the ecu into thinking the solenoid is still plugged in (since that's the resistance of the solenoid).

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks Mick, I have just put it back in there for now with the plates still installed. I did have to start it to clear the code, disconnecting the battery didnt work. Didnt really like the idea of the straight wire either so maybe the Resister is the Go !

So it's fixed now? If so, all good.

If not, the resistor is basically the same as a piece of short wire with female connectors at either. It's just that a piece of wire won't have 22 ohms of resistance (if that's what is needed to fix the light being on) so that's why you add the resistor.

Hope this helps (if it's not fixed already)

Cheers,

Mick
