New Hoops on 1100

Postby daffy67 » Mon Mar 27, 2006 12:28 pm

I had my mind set on a set of Pilot Powers, went to Tyres for Bikes today and ended up getting the last set of Diablo Corsas, which i had not considered or researched.
ZZR-1100C is the mount, i had some worn BT 020 which i had no complaints about. Time will tell for mileage etc, but it sure handles a lot better now, specially going into the corners, cost me $510 fitted so not sure if that's competitive.

Comments??

Comments? Ok, you asked for them! Sounds like you were gullible and got conned by a slick tire salesman

Not really, they were never mentioned, i spotted them on the rack. Some cheaper Dunlop ones were recommended, in fact i was the one who asked about what else was available and i never got a pitch on them.
Since i was there i chose to look at the other brands, if it ends up being a dud choice then i'll get sumfin else next time.

You may get half the life outta them compared to the Dual compound 020. But you'll have a shite load more fun.
If you don't already have a tyre repair kit i'd be buying one just to be safe, the rear's have been know to puncture a bit. hth.

For my type of riding i really didn't need soft tyres, but i prefer the grip and they certainly are sticky when warm. I did some loops of a roundabout (or two) as i need to get used to the new level of cornering i am getting.
I can see a track day on the horizon soon...

Ahhh! I see. You didn't say that in your first post. In that case, good spotting. 8)

$510 fitted sounds a bit steep though. Where did you get them? Where do you live? Queensland or with the rest of the unfortunate masses? :D

Make it soon, the local tyre dudes reckon they stick *really* well for the first couple of thousand km, then , depending on your bike (weight) and riding style (normal / hectic / scratching maniac), they wear out either pretty quickly or really quickly......but no complaints from anyone about grip levels, its always just the mileage.....

Next time you need tyres, go a set of Shinko's..........Go The Shinkies !!!

Go the Shinkie's, Diablo's are only poor mans Metzlers

Hey Gos i just had the set of Racetechs 01's Kev took off his 12R before the Snowie trip whacked on "Tiggr" yesterday (should be good for 1500ks or so). The Cavedwellor supplied New Goldfren front Brakepads & both tyres fitted/ balanced for $60. Only took 3hours.

Shinko is definitely a candidate next up, only reason i never went out that way to get 'em was because i had very little time up my sleeve.
Not sure of how chancy it was just to drop in and hope to get something fitted.
Out of curiosity, what sort of contact patch (generally speaking) do you have on a tyre when leaned right over?

About the same size as a Squashed Kiwi Fruit mate imho. Not mush different to when its upright for modern sports tyres.

Yeah Gos Kev replaced his Racetechs before we left, so he had a brand new rear Racetech which was rooted by the time we left the snowies on the way home  So less then 3000ks i'd say. These would of been lucky to get him to melbourne the way he tends to "fugg 'em" in the middle.

Taking some get used too atm. The bloody bike wants to fall into the corners I Keep having to pick it up n pick another line  Which i guess means they are better for entry speeds :D just had to muck with my spuspension abit, I have softened it up to get some more feel for where the front is.

If anyone doubts a shinko's ability don't, plenty of grip from edge to edge. :D 8)
