TOO MANY REVS

just back on a bike after a few too many years off. I know technology has changed since then. Riding a ZZR250, a great bike, but cruising at 100k's means 8000 rpm. Is this OK. I'm so used to a car that at that many revs would mean instant piston through the bonnet. If this is ok for the motor, how long can it withstand this amount of revs. I have down a few short highway trips with no problem, but am a bit wary of the revs.

Forget the number and consider how far between idle and redline it actually is. those things redline at 14k from memory, so 8 is only just past halfway. Equate that to a car that redlines at 6000rpm and it's like pulling 3500rpm. Hardly worth worrying about.

Also, remember the stroke is so short on the ZZR250, that the piston speed at 14k is probably slower than a six cylinder at 3k!!!!!!

it'll run all day and all night at that, without harm! Just keep the oil clean!!!

never a stupid question!!! always best to double check, and i agree with everything maryt said, its only about 55% of maximum revs so all should be fine if its serviced correctly and frequently!!!

They are right, its like a v8 compared to a 4... 4s just rev harder compared to a V8.
Let it sing at full noise 16k.... :kuda:
