Hi i recently purchased a zzr 250 1990 model with only 24k on the clock.
After picking it up got about 7kms away and it just died, my battery was brand new as i seen it and the old battery at the guys house, left it sitting for about 15 mins and with out the lights on got it back to his house for pick up later in a trailer, brought another as a parts bike for $250 with almost new tyres, went and picked them both up, put a volt meter on it and wasnt getting charge.so swaped the voltage regulator rectifier and was fine then. That problem solved.
Now i can hear a slight knocking noise when its cold noticed when pulling clutch it stops the clutch plates where shot so changed them this did not fix the knocking as its the clutch basket making the noise i have been completely reinsured that this is a normal thing for the zzr250 to do and so fare cant find anyone saying theres failed, but i think it would make the clutch wear faster?
Pressing on not worried about that anymore and knowing i can swap the other over at some point after i get a decent impact wrench,
I was riding and suddenly lost power like runing out of fuel not long after i just filled up, its was cold and raining.
And i was doing abit of compression braking down long steep winding road till finerly at the bottom gain speed to the conditions then after about 3 ks just struggling to run took it straight to my bike block he changed fuel filter checked the feul cleaned carbies thought i wonder if he just emptied the bowls.
Picked it up and while it wasnt struggling to run it seemed to have nothing and him riding much bigger faster bikes probly was like yeah thats it. But i knew it wasnt right.
I got it back and noticed a feul leak which started me on my direction,
Replaced the tap bolt neapren washer and just tightened the screews around the tap, thats when i noticed when they took the tank off they were just pushing on and off the vacume hose and it wasnt real tight so replaced the cable tie put it back together and boom fired up and sounded fantaztic its revs were fast and responsive.
Took it for a long ride what a difference 2 and half hours beautiful riding. Next day raining and cold i set for the ride home got about 30ks away problem back struggling for power, pull in to fill up on fuel started fine and was fine for another 30ks the the same thing loses power and really playing with it can keep it going till i pull over rev it up sounds ok take off so on and so on. Im unsure where to go next.
