GPZ-RX/1000 - whats it worth?

Postby Jesco » Mon Nov 15, 2010 6:06 pm

Hi All,

I'm posting this question on behalf of a friend who owns a 1986 GPZ-RX/1000 with 23598KM on the clock. I'm no road bike expert but it does look to be in very good condition to me. It only gets ridden once or twice a year, and now he's thinking about selling it but has no idea to it's value. It has the original pipes, carry bar and bag. Are these bikes sought after at all, or are they regarded as just another bike, so to speak? Any help most appreciated, thanks.

Regards,

Jesco

Not really a sought-after model, the GPz900R released in 1984, and from which this bike evolved - is regarded as a better model all round.

That said - I still wanted one in the collection anyway, for a few reasons. This model was the first-ever 1 litre Ninja model sold in the world, and the engine configuration remained at the heart of a family of 1000, 1100 and eventually 1200cc models - ZX10, ZZR1100, ZZR1200, ZRX1100 and ZRX1200. Its a killer motor....

They were only released for 2 years - 86 and 87. A really good example might be worth $5k tops ?

If you could bung up some photos that would be great.

Agreed, it would want to be immaculate - like REALLY immaculate - to warrant anything more than 5K large. :kuda:

Many thanks Gosling1 and Phil for the help.

My friend is 'digitally challenged' but I'll see if I can get some pics - or at least one pic if possible.

Although I haven't gone over the bike in detail myself, I have seen it and it really is in very great shape visually and the owner isn't one to let things slide in the maintenance department. I reckon he may have been hoping it'd be worth more than $5K :). Thing is, he's in country Tasmania and prices are generally higher for vehicles and so his expectations may be higher. I know there is a big difference between mainland and Tassie values for cars.

He did inquire at one of the bigger dealerships in Launceston and I think he said he was offered $5K for it there? Naturally he would assume he could get more selling privately, I guess. Of course, it's only worth for what somebody is prepared to pay... and there are not too many potential buyers locally.

Thanks again for help, cheers
