Hi,

New to the to place...So great to so many guys/gals on GPX's ... as I understand there was ever only 350 in Australia.

And I have 2 of these one I bought brand new out of the box not even on the floor from Gus Lue at Sutherland in 1986,(Rego GPX-86...Black yellow plate) never dropped 67.000km on the clock. I stopped riding it in 2003. Last year I decide to bring it back to life an discover that the tank was stuffed (what a surprise daaa).
Anyway after much searching for a tank with no luck and the prospect of having to do a tank treatment to try an revive it, I found a guy selling his so I bought a second GPX 750 (Rego GPX-87...Black White plate). what a coincidence with the palates...It was destiny I tell ya.
Yeaaa so good to be back on it after such long time...This bike had being pretty well kept and after replacing the battery it has being running well...Till...drum roll... Last month I decide to do all the fluids and plugs and while I was at it i chucked in a bottle of Moutul fuel treatment into a full tank of 91oct...once done I took it for a run and at about 5km into my ride it all started splatter splatter choke choke, I promptly returned home to discover that the fuel was backing up and flooding the air canister...I then drained the floaters replace the fuel but the problem is still there... After reading the manual extensively I put it down to floater valve stuck after fuel treatment...I have maintained the my bike all the time but I wont touch the 16 valves or the carbs. Again after much ringing around no one what to touch bikes older the 10 years...So I am looking for someone in the Sydney area that can help me fix the problem...If anyone is aware or knows a mechanic that may be recommend please let me know?
Kind Regards
Pablo

Sounds like something stuck in the needle and seat on one of your carbs.

HI Guys,

I got it all sorted.

Ended up watching some of "mrmaxstory" YouTube movies https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp1dfL ... JslvhC8rw- as well as gun cleaning techniques for brass shells.

I did all the cleaning with an ultrasonic cleaner ($70 from Jaycar) and I used a combination of electronic pats cleaning detergent and vinegar for the cleaning solution.
I put the jets through several 480 sec. cycles, and then did the carb bowls and all other metal part I could fit in the 600ml cleaner bowl. Also used good old card cleaner spray on the extirior. (Waning- Do not put any of the rubber part through this type of cleaning especially the diaphragms or spray card cleaner on them).

It all came up like a charm (great for cleaning tools and jewellery as well)...And with the money I saved in having someone do the work I bought a set of vacuum gauges to do the final adjustments.
I have also put an inline fuel filter as well.

Now she’s purring like a pussy cat but roars like a lion when I open it up.

No More Fear - I stole my Dreams back :)
Regards
Pablo :) :) :)

Not quite, the ZXR's had bucket and shim valve adjustment, the GPX has screw and lock nut, other then the head they are the same engines.

Didnt want to loose the plates Smitty, was cheaper then storage as it was free to chage them.
They will be back on the $20M GPX soon enough, getting a ZXR front end fitted at the moment :-)

GPXtim2, GPXtim2, GPXtim2,

How did your ZXR front end mod turn out? Have you done anything at the rear to fit a 17 inch wheel or are you sticking with the 18 inch? Considering doing something the same so interested in how it works out for you.

Cheers
