update # 1 FROM LAST WEEKEND......

worked on the rear brake set-up and electrics for most of the day. Finally got a decent rear brake torque-arm knocked up from some solid bar, it is tough as, so should be OK for racing.....bled the rear brake, found out that 1 piston is not moving , will fix that shortly.......but kicked a couple of goals with the electrics - all done and dusted, those total-loss systems are a *breeze* no shit its about 8 wires in total, very easy to get it all together............now fingers crossed it will all work fine !! Doing a battery box tonight, its almost finished..

Picking up the carbs tomorrow night, and should have them fitted tomorrow night - will have to make up a throttle cable to suit the *ultra* quick action throttle... you think 1/5 is quick ???/ Try 1/8 !!!! muahahahahha *sick as*.

After that, its only fitting the exhaust that will be an *interesting* exercise in swearing.......

picked up a 2nd-hand 002 Bridgie race tyre today, it will be fitted on Thursday, and Fitzie from CMC has to pull the rotor off on Thursday morning as well.......bloody thing hasn't been off in 28+ years, and my gear puller just can't budge the prick......

So things progressing nicely, and sometime on Thursday, I *might* hear the bastard fire into life !!!!

UPDATE #2 - FROM TODAY !!!

OK, have had some *serious* improvement occur in the last 48 hours....

Wednesday night - finished the wiring and battery box........got a quick-turn throttle arranged.......and I was loaned a set of of 33mm smoothbore Mikuni's from a good mate, they used to be fitted to his GS1000 drag-bike....

Got the rotor taken off this morning..........and fitted the battery and ignitor unit this morning, also fitted the carbs and fuel lines, air filters, and a couple of other things.....

And at 2.36pm this afternoon, the new shed-monster roared into life !!!!!!!!!!!!!

2nd bump-start attempt down the driveway........and it fired right up. Sounds *cool as phuck*, but they always do when its just a straight-through exhaust. Did a couple of laps up and down the driveway , it looks like everything is OK at this very early stage. I still have to tidy up a lot of bits, the tacho is still not fitted, and the seat has to be upholstered, but by and large, I am fucking ecstatic that this baby is now offically........A RUNNER !!!

Will knock up a quick video to post on YouTube on Sunday......

this bike is a perfect example of something that has been built with "....a piece from here......and a piece from there....."

So the track-day 'shakedown' next Friday is looking even better now, with any luck I will be able to get a number of practice sessions in, dial up the brakes and suspension (in a manner of speaking), and basically *get used* to my new track bike !!

Given the recent success of the track-hack out at Wakefield Park last week, here are some updated pic's of the beast, and also a nice pic of Problem Childs 7/12 Suzie hybrid....these were taken on Saturday out at the 'Bikefest 08' event held here in Canberra.

The trackie is now basically completed, and work has already started on upgrades !!

Yesterday, the new YSS shocks arrived. They are pretty chunky, 16mm shaft, with a couple of sets of different weight springs to dial them in *just right*. So they are fitted (not in these pictures). I have also gotten some good jetting advice from one of the front-runners in PCRA who is also using the same black-top 33mm smoothbore Mikuni's as fitted to mine. Hopefully I can get the jetting sorted at another track day soon ( perhaps even at Oran Park.... ;) ) prior to the PCRA round in July.

The total-loss system works fine, the front-end from the Black Pearl is OK for the time being, I will have to change the front master cylinder to a period-specific style ( currently running a ZX6R m/cyl with remote resevoir).

Will update this thread on a regular basis, as the bike continues to develop.

Log book application being lodged shortly - I needed a couple of good photos to submit...

Got Marcus to have a look over the bike up at Wakefield on Sunday - he gave me some advice about the application. It should be very straightforward, all the important bits are pre December 80 (frame, engine), wheels are just normal 3-spoke 17" in the right widths, and the brakes/forks are standard Kawasaki (except for the rotors).

Hopefully the logbook application should be done inside the next few weeks. The first meeting I want to do is Round 4 at Oran Park GP circuit, on 13 July...... :P

The "lowrider" is so low it's entirely feasible to around corners with both knees down, and requisite on the straights ;)

Onya Gos.
