06 Z750 powercommander problem *SOLVED*

Postby drewboy » Sat Mar 01, 2008 10:26 am

Hi all. Having an issue with a powercommander i ordered. It came directly from powercommander, and all the part numbers match on their website. The problem i'm having is it seems my 2006 Z750 has a different chassis wiring harness. The biggest plug in the stock system (which the powercommander plugs into) is completely missing from my bike. Not moved or altered, it's NOT THERE!!

Any information would help. The only thing i can think of is the australian model (or asia-pacific) has a different wiring harness to the rest of the world, or america where powercommander comes from. HELP PLEASE.

Andrew

Tell me about it, the only upside is i didn't pay full price for it, but it's brand new, i don't know why it won't fit.

Hey Rob, have you had the tank off your zed?? just want to know if yours has the plug or not. It's a big square one right near the radiator cap it's the biggest plug on the wiring harness.

By the way, i did however get a BMC air filter from the same mob, and it did fit, even with the stock tuning it made a fair improvement. Smooths the powercurve out, and feels like more pull down low, and more responsive.

cheers

I had the tank off for the front end conversion but I wasnt looking for the connector you say is missing :? so no idea on that one. BMC sounds like the goods ;) had one on my ZXR750 8) so I might consider one on the zed

I know it's a pain in the arse, but if you could have a look on your bike, it would be a huge help to know if yours has the plug. Plus if everything goes pair-shaped and i can't send it back, there will be a cheap powercommander for sale!! It would be a huge help.

Here's the web address for the installation instructions. Figure E and F show the plug i'm talking about which is missing on my bike:

I have sorted out what has happened. On further inspection of the bike, and some investigation on powercommander's site, it turns out that in the US the Z750 and Z750S have different chassis wiring harnesses. Whereas here in Oz, the Z750 has the same harness as the Z750S, so they have sent me the wrong PCIII. The one i need doesn't use the massive square plug, instead it plugs directly to the injectors.

So now i just need to send it back so they can swap it for the correct PCIII.

cheers

Bugga .... its good to have a fix but its a hassle to go through not to mention the time it will take to turnaround :x
I know hit them up for 2 for the price of 1 & you could sell me the spare at a highly reduced price;)

Yay, after sending the powercommander back a second time, they've finally sent the right one!! received it last week, was piss easy to fit. I already know Robracer, you want to know what difference it made, well i'm just running the standard map at the moment, did a fair bit of riding on the weekend, so i should notice the difference when i have a play and experiment, possibly tomorrow. As for the standard map, i think it might be slightly lean, it runs smooth, lost a bee's dick of response, should really notice with a map designed for a slip-on and filter. Will get it dynoed later on.

cheers

Well, after stealing my mum's laptop, i had a play with the PCIII. There's no map for an Arrow exhaust, so i tried the map for a Micron slip-on with aftermarket air cleaner. All i can say is holy sh!t! man did it make a difference! i have no idea on horsepower until i have it dynoed a bit later, but i'm very impressed!! with stock gearing it now lifts 1st and 2nd, which never happened before when powering on, and it gets light in the front in 3rd.

But it pulls all through the rev range, i don't rev it out nearly as much around town, and it revs quick and really responsive. I was a bit scepticle about how much improvement it would make, once i took it for a ride i was blown away.

2 thumbs up, THAT'S TOPS.

cheers
