Couple of Q's for the ZRXers out there

Postby J.B » Wed Apr 01, 2009 5:02 pm

Just getting a jet kit and set of pods for my beastie and wanted to check if anyone else has done this and installed something where the airbox used to be (ie. teds storage tray or battery out kit)?

Also, are there rear paddock stands out there which are better suited to the rex? I have a kaneg one, which is good, but it's geometry doesn't seem suited to this bike (a right pain to pick-up yourself). Checking the AMCN update mentioned they had one made to order. Surely there's an easier solution :?

Cheers.

dont know anything about the jet kit or pods, although with your stand what if you weld/attach a longer handle to give you a longer pivot :kuda:

Sharp do a ZRX stand, i've got one and it works perfectly with my Kaneg head stem lifter stand. It is a little shorter so it doesnt lift as hight but still has plenty of leverage.

Cant help with the pods as I am keeping my airbox, but the ted battery out kit looks to be the go, or a cut up ice cream container like my mate used on his 11

I had thought of this. Though my brother is keen to buy a rear stand, so if he bought one that was good for the zrx I'd just swap mine with his.

Thats the same as the one in AMCN. So I guess it's a standard item and not a custom order then?

Yeah I'm keeping the airbox to change back if need be. Only problem with teds kits is they would have to be shipped in a largeish box, nicer if it packed flat (might PM him about that one). Ice cream container sounds like a winner  Any piccies?

Ok, so ordered the jet kit, a delay on the pods for 1-2 weeks  , and getting teds storage tray (prefer this one over the battery out kit 'cos its not like the box isn't big enough as it is and I don't see the point of lifting the mass of the battery higher).

When I get everything sorted and installed I'll post up.

As a side note, I'm not really chasing uber power so do you reckon the seat-of-the-pants dyno is fine for tuning?

I put my kit in withg the std settings suggested in the kit. I have had it on 2 separate dyno's that have both advised its about as good as it can get without MAJOR fluffy bunnying around with no guarantee its going to be better.

I only have stage 1 though.

Most of the posts on the ZRXOA seem to be using pretty close to the suggested settings, and they all seem to be pretty close on power and such.So I guess I'll just see how it feels and make up my mind then  .

After you install exhaust & jet kit etc I would be putting it on a dyno to make sure you have your A/F ratios in the ball park, as melting pistons can get quite expensive!

Yeah I was thinking this also. Though most of the guys that have dyno'd it say that it runs a little on the rich side anyway. I'll probably dyno it just to be sure though.

Thanks mate. Just had a look on the anderson website and they have a 'low' one specifically for the ZRX, so there ya go :kuda:

I have a kaneg stand and don't have too much trouble with it.

I tend to pull the bike up by the gear rack (the part where the grab rails go) as I push down. Once it gets off the ground that bit the rest is pretty easy.
