ZX12 - wanting to buy

Postby Christo » Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:38 am

I currently have the option to buy one of two ZX12s.
Both are pretty much identical - both 2003 models, around 18,000kms and in good nick.
One thing I noticed was that they both have a noticable gearbox/drive-train 'whine'.
Is this a trait of this particular model? Anything else I should look out for?
Both advertised for roughly $11K at dealerships.

Could it be the air induction noise :? .

If your looking for a ZX12R I may be selling an 06 model with full Muzzy system and PC3, bagster cover, ventura rack for a couple of grand more. and much less K's.

I can vouch for this beastie. Well looked after. Has a great sounding exhaust, with plenty of go. Well sorted.
You cant go wrong with Wadda's ZX12.

I have an 03 zx12r and it also has the whine in the drive train, mine is noticable in 3rd and 4th gears, but it does not impede the performance of the bike and my service fellow seemed to think it was normal for this bike. Easy and cheap solution was a set of mouldable ear plugs. Seriously though the whine is noticable but not that loud and does not detract from the ride at all.

Thanks Ronnie, yes I have since been told that the noise was normal.
Normally I ride with earplugs but being on a test ride I wanted to be able to hear everything.
Just have to negotiate the best deal and then get a full inspection done.
