Can someone share their opinions on brands/types of chains and sprockets please. Thinking my 02 is overdue for a change out.
No idea what chain brands are good or bad, is o-ring or x-ring better?
And same for sprockets.

DID Ebay overseas cheapest by far.
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Superbike Supplies usually have pretty good prices.

I bought their 520 conversion for my old trackie, no issues and cost was far better than anything I could find locally!

So everything on eBay is murdered by freight.

I got pricing from Peter Stevens in the CBD:
525 gold DID chain - $175.95
525 front sprocket - $45
525 rear sprocket - $62.40
Total $283.35

520 gold DID chain - $99
520 front sprocket - $35
520 rear sprocket - $40
Total $179.00

An EK chain is much better than a DID, price an EK MVX.

Got a EK installed, no fancy colours. 525 and a set of standard gearing sprockets.

Got my mechanic to give the bike a good once over and its got a clean bill of health. Discs are getting close to wear tolerance, so i'll prob have to look at them in the next 6-12 months

Thought i may as well hijack this thread then start another. Im due to swap out my chain and sprockets on my E1 zx9. After looking around most people seem to recommend did or ek chains. I got quoted by my local bike mechanic $390 (around $90 labour) to install an ek x ring chain and the sprockets, I know $90 isn’t that much considering the front sprocket gives so many problems, but i dont mind having a go at things myself and learning a thing or two, so i figure i might just do it myself.
I found the tsubaki/bma chain and sprocket kit on slipstream (the website listed above) for either $200 or $260 odd for the heavy duty. Both are x ring chains. Has anyone had experience with these chains or should i just source my own ek mvxz chain? (which ill probably do from an overseas supplier)

Again, try SuperbikeSupply for a chain and sprockets deal.

Front a project can be a pain but I've found using a 4 or 5 foot scaffolding bar over a torque bar tends to get the bolt loose and with a lump of wood holding the rear wheel right against the swingarm an a mate holding the bike its pretty easy.

Rough but easy!

I'm due for new chain & sprockets too, why do they seem to recommend 13 - 38 sprockets ? Std is 16 - 44 which is what I,m running, ratios are similar at 2.9 & 2.8 respectively.
What do you guy's run ?

I think 13/38 was the ratio for the J model bike.

The difference is actually pretty noticeable between 13/38 and 16/44 mate.

13/38 = 2.923
16/44 = 2.750

To get the nearest to 13/38 you actually need either 16/47 (2.938) or 15/44 (2.933) or 14/41 (2.929).

I wouldn't go down to a 13 front.
Smaller front sprockets cause more chain wear than larger.

13 front is way small - I would be really surprised if that was an OEM size ?

dropping from 16/44 to 15/44 will just give you a bit more poke off the mark. Lose a little bit of top-end but who really uses those last 30kmh anyway eh ? ;)
