Dovi wanted a factory ride no matter what brand.
Smith signed a watertight contract at the end of 2011 to ride tech 3. At the time he was beginning to show some talent.

Then when his talent ran out in 2012, tech3 tried to drop him but contract was too tight.
Win for Smith.

And Smith got plenty of juicy, rich personal sponsors! He's been geting groomed for MotoGp since he was a young chap, met him at Brno some years back, all conversations were very well prepared and prompted. Nice fella, but as with all gingers, he should have been locked under the stairs at a young age!

Redding on the other hand, is a nut case off the track. had the pleasure of sharing a garage with him last year in our local Nifty 50 endurance race ( honda 50 step through 4 hr ) and he doesnt care what he's says! A talent and one to watch in the future once he gets his break!

I also think the weight factor weighs heavily against redding :D

Interestingly after taking the piss above... Abraham smashed Espargaro recently in testing @ valencia.
By 8 seconds when both on the ARTs.

Now his oldboy may have some pull, but remember it was only last year he was battling with crutchlow 4 rookie of the year..before a cple of huge offs. He can ride & so can ( cough cough) espargaro. just not as well in my opinion:

Wattie & Blurr must owe him money :)

I think you just did some research...

Redding will still be disadvantaged weight wise.
Motogp weighed every moto2 rider and made the average rider weight plus the current bike weight the bike+rider weight next year.

Redding is stil quite a bit heavier than the average. He needs to shave his head, full body wax, shit and spew before a race

Looks like Vermeulen is in the spot light for the last CRT spot.

Former MotoGP race winner Chris Vermeulen is being linked with the only remaining seat still officially open on the 2013 grid.

The IodaRacing team is planning to run a second BMW-Suter, alongside Danilo Petrucci, but the identity of the rider remains 'to be confirmed' - Roberto Rolfo's reported deal having fallen through.

Vermeulen rode the Suter-BMW at Le Mans this year, scene of his MotoGP win for Suzuki, in place of the injured Colin Edwards at Forward Racing, finishing in 17th.

30-year-old Vermeulen has been without a permanent ride since the end of 2011, following two injury blighted seasons with the factory Kawasaki WSBK team.

While Vermeulen is keen to return, Ioda are said to be interested in using his experience to help develop the bike. Ioda will be the only team running Suter-BMWs in 2013 with Forward switching to FTR-Kawasakis.

Suter marketing director, Andreas Leuthe fears that Vermeulen "could be too expensive", but Vermeulen told Speedweek.de: "I won't ask for a high wage" adding: "I want to race again and get another chance".

Should Vermeulen and Ioda agree terms, he would be the second Australian on the full-time 2013 grid, alongside rookie Bryan Staring (Gresini CRT).

That would be awesome. The more Aussies the better.
