I ran my 03 636 in on Shell's running in oil mineral oil (X4?) for the first 2500km's, changing the oil @ 500km's, oil & filter @1000km's, oil @ 1500km's & oil & filter @ 2500km's which is when I changed to the Shell's full synthetic Ultra
($60 4L made in EU 10w40) which is what I have used ever since & the bike has approx 7200km's on her now & on to it's 4th oil filter & 7th oil change. I ALWAYS have fresh oil in her for a track day & depending on km's a filter. 2500km's max for oil & filter!

Geesh! The recommended is 6,000km!

Mind you, if you can keep to that routine it'll do your bike a hell of alot of good.

i use to use 2 stroke boat oil in my 2 stroke 250..cos id steal it off
dad..dunno if it was different or not, but heaps cheaper than the bike
stuff, and seemed to give better performance?? go figure..

I've been using Castrol Magnatec 10W40 in the ZZR250 now for almost 30,000 k's and have not had any problems with it at all.

I change the oil every 3000 k's and the filter every 6000 'cause I spend about 90 mins a day at ~9500 RPM.

I will try Motul at the next change (this weekend) and see if it makes any difference over the next few weeks.

i know the reply is a bit late but a mate of mine has done over 120,000 km on his zzr1100 and he told me he uses car oil but changes every 5000km's.

he's had the bike since new (i think or maybe 20,000) and that how he's been treating it.
