After I got my P's I wrote a letter to some people at the dept of transort and got my 250cc restriction removed so that I could ride whatever I wanted, man was I happy.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" screw it then i'll just be bad.

HAHAHAHA good call.
Seriously its something that can be done, I know quite a few guys who have, most of us have had previous riding experience or have held a licence before though. I know some guys who have been given the exemption simply because theyre big and 250s wont carry em properly.
I faxed the letter away on a Wednesday and the restriction was removed on Friday, had a loan and a new bike the very next week.

hmm that's interesting. i've got a mate who's getting his first bike probably some time next year, and he's pretty huge.
Anyone heard of this sort of thing happening in vic?

Yeah unfortunately it is another 12 months before i can get a bigger bike....after 2 months and 4000km of riding my zzr250, i'm already hungry for more power....

not really, you can get a bigger bike as long as its a LAM (btw the mighty zeph is a LAM and a few people here have seen how that little thing goes....)

haha thats piss funny quarkz..was ur mum scared ud hurt urself if u went too
big too early?? my dad was the opposite..id had my L's abt 2 months & he
reckoned i should buy my uncles z750..so i rode it home..bloody death trap!!
no brakes, handled like a POS..my uncle bought it for $500...about $400 more
than it was worth...i rang him & told him to "come get ur bloody anchor" so
he trailored it home (even HE wouldnt ride it)..then abt a month short of my
P's running out i got dun on a TZR250 (2 stroke learner illegal) and lost my
P's..hadda start again...tho i only lasted abt 8 months & i bought the
cb900....i really dont learn...an my dad was a bloody good help at being
silly..lol...wot a champ he was!!

I agree with you Felix - yay for Q-Ride!

Though really I think the system here in Qld is a little sus - before a few months ago I had never ridden a bike in my life, and now after passing my Opens through Q-Ride last month I can ride any bike I want, I mean I'm not complaining, but its maybe not so good for people who think they can handle something bigger after only a couple of months riding ... I will be sticking to my 250 for a while yet ... but damn its tempting to upgrade to a nice ZX6-R lol

Congrats on passing your P's Timbo :D

Onya Tim :D ,

Just remember every Car has your name on its bonnet, behind every parked car is a 6 year old "footbal star" Your Back wheel is optional, Front wheel is your only true Friend So look after it & everything will be apples.
Oh n personal experience always apply back brake (just a tad) before front on the mighty zzr250.

Q ride is a good thing but some Q ride Instructors have their heads up thier BUMS.

I've gotta say I feel your pain Tim.

I put in 5.5 months and about 4000 Km on my L's.

I have now been on my P's for 8.5 months, have racked up about 30,000 Km's, and still have 3.5 months to go till I can get that bigger bike ... damn.

Oh well, I kinda like my 250, I suppose ..... maybe

I spent the whole 15 months on l's then had to get my p's otherwise i would have lost my license, and then did the year on my p's (still on my p's but unrestricted)

I did something like 25-27,000 km on that little spada. rang its neck every time and it didnt die (came close accouple of times) glad to hear you're on the road to the big bike. I hear ya about wanting more power.
