As Jas said, request the photo. If your not the only one in it, fight it. If you are, burn it. Because you should be ashamed.

aardvark wrote:It's not quite that easy. Some cameras can determine which vehicle is speeding. If they can't, they can work out which vehicle was speeding by using some tricky maths. This all takes time and costs money, so often they don't bother.

Othertimes, you may try and get out of a speeding fine based on the above, but the Police will just say "Yeah, we hear you, but let's just go to court and see what the court says."

Aardvark,
To work out the maths wouldn't they need two photos or at least two measurements? Otherwise what are they comparing against?

Cameras in the uK take 2 photos.......the computer then measures the distance travelled between the shots to verify the speed is as measured.

I may appeal to the officer at the station.....play the dumb new immigrant and state the detected speed is actually within the tolerance stipulated in the Australian Design Regs for the speedo.

Y'never know he might take pity on me

Or they may not. I think you'll find the Police don't have anything to do with the speed cameras. In SA the cameras are controlled by Police Security, which is another term for public servants with blue shirts on, trying to look like coppers.

He's probably just the bloke that oversees the fines section.
