NOT WHAT U KNOW BUT WHO U KNOW

Sat Aug 11, 2012 2:29 pm

Fingers crossed, i might be heading to darwin at the end of the year.

new crest mines is opening up a new uraninum mine 1 hr out of darwin in dec.
I have a mate who is going to run/manage the bus line that is going to ferry the miners to work and back, so there looking for coach drivers.... I knew that coach licence would come in handy one day :D :D Will know in 5 weeks if im going

Been a queenslander, and lived there for a short time back in the 80s, the heat should not be to much of a problem, i hope...

The $$$ is to good to knock back, hours long tho, 7 on 1 off, 6 on 2 off, twice then they fly u home for a week, then all over again, but at a $130,000 a year, its a bit hard to say no too :)

Down side tho, i can kiss my ridedays goodbuy for some time :( :( But i can see a fatboy coming... yer i know... the days of goin silly in the hills are over anyway..Tho be good to get out of this cold wet place :) :)

Cheers stu,

Yer looking forward to it.

The offer came about as one of the guys i share with, works for the company that is building the busses that they need, and after 20 years, he has had enough, and has been offered the job of maintaining the 50 odd coaches they are building. so asked if i was interested in going.. hell yer i said.. main thing is, as he said i tick the boxes they need... no record, no drug convictions, clean licence    yep clean... have coach licence, and come from outback QLD, where heat should not be a prob.. few things i need to find out first tho, but looking good.

$$$ to good to knock back, double what im on now.. tho i got it pretty easy, up at 430am finish by 130pm... so things will change a lot..

Helps to when u dont have a wife and kids, my time is my time.. so maybe give it 5 years........

This is true :) only 20-40% of jobs are actually advertised, the other 60-80% are all filled via networking (who you know), cold calling, head hunting etc.

Good LUCK!

For sure jonno, tho i wont be taking my bike up, would be cooler months only thats for sure, will look into it.

The thort of flying back to melbourne every month, for a week will get tiring, so maybe a big adventure bike to go exploring during time off when not home sounds good.

Lots of dirtbikin there, road riding is a waste of time and pretty unsafe really.

I agree, adventure riding would be the go.
Darwin Motorcycle club is very active and they are pretty friendly and helpful, but this time of year the pubs are full and nobody wants to do anything, actually its like that year round

Flying back to Adelaide regularly was no fun, 5+ hrs - well basically a day including the to and from.
