Yeap you can, but you would run foul of the law for discharging a firearm in a residential area and yes an air rifle is classed as a firearm even a 177 let alone a .50.

Has to be the Indian Myna not the Noisy which is protected. One is brown (Indian) the other is grey.

The Indian Myna was introduced by of all people an Indian. The wife of an Indian Diplomat in Canberra missed having them around so brought some over with her and released them

I fecking hate them... If I leave any balcony door open they sh@t on the couches, if I leave the kitchen window open, well... there goes the benchtop and whatever else they feel like 'blessing'. My flatmate suggested we put laxative on cooked rice/bread and left the window open... as funny as that would be, I felt like it would back fire big time so I vetoed it.

No such law, at least in NSW. You do however require a lawful reason and the right category licence. It is all outlined in the crimes act 1901.

an exert from the Firearms act 1996

Section 93G(1)(a) prohibits the possession of a loaded firearm in a public place, or in any other place so as to endanger the life of another person. The community regards the crime of carrying a concealed weapon such as a pistol (under s 93G(1)(a)) as a very serious offence: Saad v R [2007] NSWCCA 98 at [38].

Section 93G(1)(b) prohibits the discharge of a firearm in or near a public place. Section 93G(1)(c) prohibits carrying or firing a firearm in a manner likely to injure any person or property, or with disregard for the safety of the offender or others. All three offences under s 93G have a maximum penalty of imprisonment for 10 years.

Seems like NSW does!

You didn't read (or quote) far enough:

93G(3) A person is not guilty of an offence under this section for possessing or doing anything referred to in subsection (1) if the person satisfies the court that he or she had a reasonable excuse for possessing it or doing it or possessed it or did it for a lawful purpose.

And it is the crimes act 1900, not the firearms act 1996 which is important here.

Yeah sorry replace residential with public. Oh and try discharging a firearm in your back yard and having a neighbour or anyone report you and see how far you get.
