2010 Ford Focus LV MKII TDCi (2 litre turbo-diesel/6-sp manual).

Why? Well the old Magna was using at least a tank a week @ 68 litres a go.

The Focus does at least 800km/tank in winter (summer more - around 850km) on 53 litres and for a diesel goes really well, nearly as well as the 3.5l Magna. Funny enough I blew a tyre last week and had to drive down the freeway at 80km/h on a space-saver spare and found if you were willing to drive in 5th at 80km/h (and I'm not) you could do nearly 1600km/tank as it was showing 3.4l/100km all the way down to the nearest big town. That's better than a hybrid and actually better than my Hornet ;). Normal economy is around 6.5l/100km.

The missus has a 2011 Ford Fiesta TDCi (1.6 litre turbo-diesel/5-sp manual). Smaller tank so doesn't go quite as far, but also goes really well. Only odd thing is that I feel like I'm sitting in a roller skate when I'm driving it. Better economy, offset by the smaller engine revving a bit harder...overall not much difference, around 6.0l/100km.

Good having manuals as it means #1 son won't ask to drive them as he got his license in an auto .

You must be doing a lot of freeway stuff to get 6.5 out of the focus.
We don't do any freeway in our focus, and we get 5.6l per 100 all the time.
Less if I drive it, because Michelle forgets to use 6th gear all the time in the 80km zones.
When we took it on hols when it was new, sittin in 110-120 returned about 6l per 100. They don't do good consumption sittin over 2000 revs.

A bmw m3 gets better fuel consumption than a Prius. Check YouTube for the top gear test.

Yeah, it's freeway to get anywhere up here, the 6.5l/100km is the around town/dirt road/freeway mix. If you sit on the freeway all day it drops down under 5.5l/100km.
