Eg if a dog takes a crap in your house, don't smack it or yell at it. Take the crap outside put it where you want the dog to crap, let the dog sniff it and then reward him. He then gets the idea that when he craps on the grass you're happy.
With our dog when she barks for attention we ignore her until she stops barking, then when she stops give her a pat and a "good girl".
Not sure how you apply this to your situation but there'll be a way.. As I said try and get on to Marty he'll have a plan.
