Irregular Dirt days

Irregular Dirt days

Postby Blurr » Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:34 am

They have started.

Now I know they are not exactly sportsbikes although a couple of us have proven that they can show a few sportsbikes up in the twisties :D .

Now that a few of us have dirtbikes maybe there should be a sticky to help get a few more of these rides happening.

The weekend before last Wattie and I headed out to Appin MC track for the day. The weather didnt look good to start with, the track was wet muddy and we thought a jetski may have been required on some of the berms.

With the wet weather Wattie was in a bit of trouble. He was solidly defending his bald rear tyre until I went past him out of the corners. He just couldnt get traction which was consquently good for me as it meant no roost :D he however was not so lucky  .

As the day dried out we were both starting to get used to the new bikes and the track. By about half way in we were both clearing most of the table tops and even starting to overtake a few riders out on the track. Not bad for 2 guys who had riden dirt for a good 5-10 years 8) .

As to be expected the competitveness started kicking and eblows started to come out. I accidently almost took Wattie out as I tried to get back past him down the inside under brake whilst I was sideways backing it in  came close but it was all good and I could hear Wattie laughing at me underneath his helmet.

We also hit the trails (however they now only have one short one) which was good but boring after a lap or 2.

So when's the next one :?

Well on the weekend, Blurr and i did a bit of exploring around Jervis Bay.

Due to some RTA issues, our outing was somewhat limited but we still managed to waste a bit of fuel and create some carbon 8)

1st off things were a little odd for me, felt like i hadnt mounted my wheels correctly the bike was all over the shop, even on the road it felt strange.
I had just got a new set of tyres, they are definatly not like my old ones. they got stuck in ruts and grooves and pretty much went where they liked. :?

But never fear, the mud and puddles were still negotiated, i found the best way to deal with my front end issue was to raise it off the ground a little bit. :kuda:

Russ and i found a bit of a sany track some guys had cut into the bush, we had a bit of a bash around there but soon got the shits with the whoops and Russ kept holding me up. so we went elsewhere.

After a bite to eat at the local bakers Delight we hit some more bush.

Found a nice little open bit of sand/dirt and started doing laps, was great fun, no ruts (we at least when we started) and hard packed at one end where we could practice our drifting skills. :kuda:
Had a blast round there chasing Russ down and trying a little argey bargey, then taking of into the distance..

Even with my tyre issue managed to keep ahead. :kuda:

We swapped bike for a few laps, amazing the difference between the 2, mind was lighter to steer but less grip, and Russ' being geared a bit shorter made for lightning quick gearchanges.

Even in "eco" mode with stock pipe his still made the right noises 8)

Had a great day, bike ran well apart form getting a little hot while waiting for Russ to catch up, got rained on pretty hard on the way home, Luckily i was in the Subaru with bike on the trailer

oh yeah here's a write up on the tyres i purchased for a steal...

Sounds like you boys are having some fun...
We're going to try to get up to Louee in the next few weeks, although with you 2 being so "competative" I'm not sure an old bloke like me wants you around... :-)
