The Z1000 is an awesome piece of gear. Don't even think about it just get one :) The Ninja's nice but probably only really the pick of the two if your doing a bit of two up or more touring type stuff.

Hoff will probably be along shortly.

Yeh, I Havnt had a chance to test ride them yet. I get back from overseas in a month. I've got an hour commute to work so I was thinking of mixing the travel up between the car and bike. The ninja is only 400 more and comes with a larger fuel tank. Is there some other main differences I'm missing?

I'm coming from a 05 zx6r, I can't wait for the 1000.

See my post in the "im tempted thread re deals"

When we were away recently the Hoff didnt sem to have any trouble getting over 200k's from a tank on the Z1000, thats the one I'd pick over the Ninja.

Yeah they good.. Fuel range is 200-210 on zed, add 40-50 for the tourer..never needed more, remember its a streetfighter..Z looks better and is a bit different in terms of greater ground clearance and more aggressive position..tourer would be better for big long distance work and pillioning if your into that..

You will need a sargent/corbin seat on both..same part..

I had to take my Gen 1 zed on a little tour this arvo, filled up at Ryde, needed to fill up again near home, fuel light can on at 215-220, filled at 236.7 and it tool 14.75l. My tank is bigger but I may also have been naughty on occasion.

I need an olde road local to show me where the fuzz sit, so I just went slow on straight bits and "rode the pace" on the rest ;)

Can't speak to the zthous as I have never actually ridden one,

I can however say that the ninja thousand SX is turning out to be the single smartest purchase of a motorcycle in my entire riding career of 21 years.

It's fast, it's agile, the engine is just farking magnificent, brakes are superb, turns in like a missile, and extremely forgiving of hamfistedness, tighten the line, run it a little wide, pull it back in, it's all good.

The only thing that is a negative, IMO, is the damned rear shock, it's shite, and is soon to be replaced, mebbe an ixon or something.

I reckon it depends on the look you like, the Ninja is more of a sports tourer as to the Zed being a streetfighter. Dont get me wrong the Zed is more than capable of touring but as Hoffy says it has a more aggressive riding position.

Im on a 2003 Zed and love it, i do more than 100+ ks on it on my daily commute, however i dont have or think i need a soft cushy seat  , i think someone should HTFU, ;)

My vote is the Zed, top bike. :kuda:

Had an old ZX6R when I was in Melbourne. My back never liked the seating position for long highway trips. (100+kms before rests). But I loved it around the twisties. I only rode a Z around the city and I liked the sitting position. Didn't get a chance to take it around the highways. The ZRX(S) is in a completely different league though :)
Loved the seating position through out the Melb>Gold Coast trip. :)

So it really depends on-
the 1 hour commute is mostly highway or city? Highway...i will prefer the Zed
your usual rides are inter state touring or small runs around the twisties?Small runs around the twisties...i will prefer the Ninja.

Also. Riding with a pillion on the ninja over long distance rides...was a strict no-no from the Mrs, she has no complains sitting behind the ZRX for 1000+km rides.

The Ninja he speaks of isnt the sports bike Ninja, its the sports touring Ninja.

The Zed would be IMHO way better and more fun in the twisties.
