the black one ;) - well all is not as it seems. That bike is also (well, was) a bog-stock 1981 Z750E. I got it as a wreck and knocked it back together in about 3 weeks - this was well before kids

In that photo, it is using the old bikini fairing from the Black Pearl, a 4-1 exhaust I knocked up myself complete with dodgy Repco chrome turn-out muffler, a set of rear shocks from a 1973 z900 - and everything else OEM.

But the build-quality is so high, I can understand why you would think its a jap-market import ;)

This bike has had a lot of changes over the years......

Haha love that " build quality so high" remark Gosling looks like the "stone" to me. Funny when I was building this bike I was going to go with the bikini fairing as well.
That exhaust is a work of art bet the wife knew when you were coming home and the neighbours hated you

That exhaust system was a ripper but actually not too noisy - I made a small absorption muffler that fitted inside the chrome tip, and this did actually knock the note down a bit...............and that little bikin fairing has been on so many of my bikes its not funny  ...

here is a shot from 1981 when it was almost brand-new  - its been cut-down a bit during the years since then.....

For the 'Stone' run back in 1998 - the little 750 had a bit of a makeover.........

after the Stone run, in a couple of hours on the piss with the WA Z Owners in the backyard - I changed the 750 from the 'Stone' version to the cafe-racer version here. This entire conversion (mainly cosmetics ;) ) literally took 2 hours from start to finish.....

This bike finally saw its most dramatic conversion a few years ago, when it was converted to the z750MX version :kuda:

Unreal photos Gos.
I love the original Z1000MKII (take note brian)
but the dirt track version is awesome. I've got some spare GSX parts here and i've been wanting an old dirt bike for a while.
You might have given me an idea.

I must say that I too am starting to think along the lines of the dirt track version as well with the spare frame and engine i have and that paint does set it off.
Love it.
Rob.

cheers Eastoe - that MkII is actually the Black Pearl - a Z1000H. One of 33 imported into Oz during mid-1980, about 6 months prior to the release of the first GPz1100B1. Have a close look at the carbs ;). Still, after all these years - my favourite bike in the stable.

I would love to see a good Gixxer 1100 chookie, that would shred !

No disrespect to Gos of course, but the H striping just doesn't do it for me. Cool and super-rare bike, though :kuda:

Cheers,
Brian

there is a film about some lunatics who ride up to cape york on. . .
Take 2 x BMW R1100GS, 1 x GSXR 1100, and 1x Honda NX 650. Put them on 1000 kilometres of extreme dirt road, throw in lots of river crossings, sand, corrugations, rainforest, beautiful coastline, and interesting people from the top of Australia and you’ve got a light hearted look at a journey of four friends on motorbikes where size does matter.

:) that looks pretty cool, but I wasn't picturing a slabbie gixxer - more the early-style air-cooled jobbies from the early 80's ....

Here is a cool Zed chookie - I love these shots. This is a WA bike......

and even a Hog chookie

Nice - looks like an early 900 or 1000 fitted up with a J head for the bigger valves. The kickstarter gives it away as an early motor....

better get back on-topic here, massive hijack of a 750 thread  will dig up some info on that igniter unit, I am pretty sure the GT750 igniter is the same as the standard Z750 unit of the same era - the GT motor was pretty much identical except for the output shaft and some of the engine covers were a bit thicker to reduce engine noise. The GT motor would have used the normal mechanical advance just like the bigger MkII motors used - I have swapped these units between 750 motors and 1000 motors pretty regularly.

Wrong thread Gosling, Greenman43 was looking for the igniter/wiring diagram for a gt750. Enjoying the hijack away ;)
Cheers Rob.
