Does your helmet have a frayed strap?

yeh but how much do you use it....its all relative.

I had my last helmet for 4 years the strap was ok, it was other bits that were falling apart due to use.

Phil is correct in stating its all relative with a purchase of a helmet, (yeh if you want too see your relatives again !)
But if your head has had as many as mine you get the best one you can get (note I didnt say afford !!!).
My helmet is a Shoei X11 and they only cost a cool gorilla and worth every cent !

I would be suprised if anyone here spends more time on the seat of a bike than me. The BMW flip top lids we use are kept for 2 years and then replaced. That's 2 years, at least 5 days a week, anywhere between 2 and 14 hours a day.

By the end of 2 years they are well and truly ready to be replaced. Having said that, have never seen one with a frayed strap.

Which all reminds me of a joke.

2 pieces of rope want to go into a bar. However, the bar doesn't serve rope.
"I've got an idea said one. Let's just loop ourselves over a couple of times and russle our ends up a bit."
They do this, enter the front door and up to the main bar.
The barman says "We don't serve rope in here."
One of the bits of rope says "We aren't rope"
Barman says "You're not?"
Rope says "Nope, I'm a-frayed-knot"

Thanks for the replies. Bought 4 HJC helmets today- they sure do look a lot better in the strap area- they would want to be. They were much dearer. Maybe I'm expecting too much but in an environment where velcro is likely to be present- when using a motorcycle jacket when wearing a motorcycle helmet I don't think it to unreasonable to expect the strap to be resistant to the velcro- my Shoei obviously is. Hopefully the HJC are too.
Will have to chuck away the RXTs as they fail one by one. It reflects on my business if I supply helmets with frayed straps- on one hand I'm telling people not to ride with damaged helmets (it's in the Q-Ride video "Ride-On") and on the other hand I end up supplying a helmet with frays on the strap. I expected far more from even a cheap helmet. I was planning on two years at least not less than twelve months.

I own 3 helmets, one cheap shit called a Turbo, no drama with the strap and it's ten years old plus, Shoei that is 2 years old, also no drama with strap and a CMS that was fraying 6 months after I bought it I reckon, am sure CMS stands for cheap mexican shit.

Not bothering getting it replaced as I never use it anyways.

The driving school I used to work for had CMS helmets and they were all frayed- not like mine, but sideways fraying, making the strap narrower...

The school did not supply jackets, except one old vinyl one from the seventies,(almost no-one wore it- they told you to wear a long shirt when you rang up) and the helmets were rank- left outside and shat on by birds, has spiders in em and mouse droppings etc....Gloves had holes and their newest set were a set of linesmans gloves a client has forgotten and left behind one day....

Couldn't wait to get outta there.....and they are the biggest driving school in Toowoomba.....
I didn't buy CMS ones coz I knew they were shit, and we wasted a lot of time adjusting the helmet to suit each client- they had clips rather than D-rings- maybe the constant adjusting stuffed em, or they were plain old.
