Iv'e Finally done it

Post by Vega »

On Sunday morning (fathers day) I will be taking delivery of a 91 ZXR-750. Then the big journey of riding it back to Brisbane from Synday will begin. Iv'e allowed myself 2 days to get back, so I can get used to the bike and not have to rush home for work on Monday.

It's been a long time coming for my first "big bike" but the wait is nearly over.

As in the words of Big Kev

"I'm Excited"

So now i'll be able to tag along with you guys instead of reading how good the day was. :o
I had ZXR-750

But now I have a 2000 ZX9-R :P

mmm You've bought a J! Nice bike even today. Rock solid front end, and rear end too

OK I know a little about these. 1stly, the rear linkage on them is crap. Kawasaki made it rise too fast and it hydraulic locks the shock. Best fix is a modified linkage available off the net if you do some surfing, or find someone who used to race them. they will know who has one, or who can make you one. It's just the dog bones which change.

The motors are fitted with cams which detuned it from it's previous incarnation. A bit like what Suzuki did with the J model Gizzer. Short stroke, torquey cams???/ Faarked if I remember the reasoning. I think it had something to do with homologating the stroke for racing? can't member zachary! But any hoo, they grunt like a bugger from low, but run out of puff up top. Aftermarket cams bring the engine back to it's former free spinning glory! :D

If it has the original exhaust bracket, watch it, they have a habit of fatigueing, and fracturing, leaving you looking for a solution to get you home!

Other than that, they had very few issues. they steer well, and that front end really is still one of the best in the business and confidence inspiring!
"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me" Hunter S. Thompson.
There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

If you can find them throw in a set of the RR cams from the ZXR750 R I can personally atest to how much this improve the top end.
