I'm a bit happier with the ZZR suspenion after yesterday.

Post by bonester »

I've never been too keen on the ZZR12 suspension although it has always been better than my 1100 suspension.
Anywho the short of it is that when I first bought the 12, a mate of mine (Buell rider...) helped me set up the static sag for the 12 and I pretty much left it at that. I have never really liked it and have since increased the preload which has made bugger all difference. (maybe worse)
Yesterday I reset the suspension back to standard (for a 68kg rider- I'm 120kg and it has luggage fitted too) and it seems far better and more 'flickable.' It went really well around Splityard Ck. :D It doesn't make much sense but it feels far better.
Worst thing is that I'm not sure how to describe what is with the suspension- it feels either good or bad. :? I know the ZRX12 I rode a couple of weeks ago would chewit a new one in the twisties still. I want to even this up a bit.
Any tips on ZZR12 suspension would be appreciated! TIA!
Gonna dump the luggage off soon too- that's what the GT is for now- touring.

I found #2 or #3 click under the rear shock was better than #4 and the dial under the seat was next to useless IMO, it was better when it whallowed around like a whale just like you are finding out, go figure. I left the forks alone, but I fairdinkum flogged that bike trying to keep up with the 12R's, I was 100kg then and it never gave me anything but confidence. I agree the diffrence between the 2 bikes is huge, made me wonder how I kept up on the old girl.

NeilP knows the suspension better, he replaced his rear shock and revalved his forks, best talk to him

bonestar i would be setting it up at the rear so it has 5 mm free sag loaded thats my standard line these days then seeing what that measures in actual sag then do the same at the front so if you have 5mm free the 35mm for 40 mm at the rear set the front to 40mm as well. (havn't you done this before??)

Then set the rebound and compression to suit and wallah it handles like a 10r on rails....well maybe not it is a tourer.

But i would go with that sag, When i have mucked with the 6r i can sort of tuck the bike under one arm and lift the back wheel off the ground but good luck with the zzr. :D
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?
