Thanks guys, I'm suprised I get this much support for wanting to do something most of you dispise.

We use BMW R1150RT's... bloody big bikes, but turn on a dime and they can carry a shit load of gear. The gearboxes in them are shit but they go suprisingly well for a pensioner bus.

We don't get taught how to become pricks. Apparently that comes with spending so much time riding. You know how you ride into work and you curse at all the morons in their cages? Imagine riding around for 8 hours a day, cursing at all the morons in their cages, and then actually be able to do something about it..... now you understand why bike coppers are the way they are.

As for tips, well... it's hard to pass this sort of stuff along. Every person makes different mistakes, the advantage we have is that their is an experienced instructor right behind us who can see every mistake we make. When we stop, they tell us what we are doing wrong.

Mallala for a day next week, and then again the week after. Should be a hoot!!

As for Bomb Squad, they had 17 try out for the final stage of testing, there were only 4 spots, and I came about 6th. Oh well. My wife is happy...

And Mario, you only think you're funny mate... hehehe. I'll admit I got a chuckle out of it.

Here's a couple of pics I took during our second track day at Mallala.

The first one shows what happens when you get the bike over far enough. It's the bike I have been given for the duration of the course and I managed to wear a hole in the plastics! Half of my footpeg is now missing aswell... (Not everyone in the course was able to get their pegs down, but some don't want to.)

None of the pics of people riding are of me. I was holding the camera.

Good skills Jason, They look a little awkward at full lean being so top heavy, but i guess you get used to that. Do you have any stuff that could benefit we "punters" that you didnt know before the course ?.

Mate, the biggest thing I've learnt is to open my eyes. I went riding with Neka and Jamie on the weekend and have noticed that my riding is faster and smoother and I can quite easily put it all down to "Observations".

They teach a a little thing called "SIPDE"
Scan (ahead)
Identify (hazards, road direction etc etc)
Predict (What that car is going to do, what way the corner is going to go etc)
Decide (What you are going to do)
Execute (Follow through with your decision)

But, the biggest thing they teach is "OBSERVATIONS". You need to open your eyes and see where the road goes. Look as far ahead as possible. I thought I used to do that, but now I realise how wrong I was.

You can tell which way a road goes, or wether a corner is about to open up or not by taking note of things like:
Tree and fence lines
Barrier lines (the lines down the middle of the road... if they are double solids, and stay that way, then the corner probably isn't opening up. If they are solid and turn into broken lines, then it's time to get on the gas.)
etc, etc....

Hope this helps.

Hmmm...good advice aardvark...

My last trip home was fast and it was all because I was looking at the horizon, not 20 metres in front of the car, and just being a lot smoother with everything. Not quite there on the bike yet, but it will come...

Sounds good Jason, I feel we all think we do those things but not ALL of it n certainly not often enough. Any thing else comes to light keep it coming.

Nah, it's compulsory here for police bikes to have front number plates. Bloody stupid if you ask me.

I think its accountability and the fact that you are now prone to getting caught by speed camera's in both directions.

At least here in Qld we have a 50/50 chance.
