Bike and Hail

Post by javaman »

Saw my first ice rain today for about 10 minutes. It was awesome !!!

Now those things looks like ice pebbles and seems very slippery. What do you guys do if it hails? Stop or is it generally safe like rain ?

depends...if im close to home/work etc i ussually just keep riding...if im
stranded in the middle of nowhere..i just keep riding....if im in town with
no where to stop, i just keep riding...actually it doesnt really depend....
only reason id stop is if the hail was hurting really bad, but i always have
a decent jacket of sum kind on so it doesnt hurt, ur legs cop a pizzlin
tho....and u just slow down & ride safely (like in the rain)....only reason
id stop is if it was dangerous & there was sum kind of shelter (carpark,
petrol station etc)

Javaman,

Last time it hailed I ended up parked in a Bus Shelter .... damn that shit hurts when you're wearing a vented summer jacket, but, to be honest, I was more worried about hail damage to the tank.

I suppose I slowed down a fair way, layed over the tank a bit to protect it and rode till I found somewhere to get off the road.

I was at Mt. Disappointment for nearly 3 days.. And well It did hail a tad...

The ground was completly white... Crazy stuff.. And then it happened again.... and again... And rained.. and rained... Never seen hail stay solid on wet ground for 3+ hours.... Dunno what temp it dropped too.. But it was rather chilly... So much for summer..

Well if it feels like ya been shot from hail or heavy rain I would find a bus shelter and kick everyone out until it passes, cant have the bike in it  Other than that i would just ride like in the wet but look out for cars as when a big downpoor is on they cant see much so it is better to get off the road.
