I'm still preparing for the mother of all resprays and have thought about having the wheels rolled, particularly the back one. Rather than just ask Gos  I thought I'd put up a post here to see if anyone:
Knows where I can have this done,
Knows what they do when they "roll" a wheel,
Knows why I should get it done,
Knows how much it will cost (to the nearest $50 or so).
The rear particularly has a couple of little bumps/undulations in the outside rim, and one fairly big chunk out of it (pic to come). Does anyone have any details about what actually happens to the wheel when it gets "rolled" so I can make a choice whether or not to do it before they get painted?

Re: Rolling Wheels - Who What Why?
A couple of things I happen to know.....
1) It certainly helps to have rolling wheels.
2) If you take them off of the bike, stand them up and give them a little push, they'll roll.

I had mine done at Peter Stevens (well, I gave it to them and it came back flat). If you give them rim with tyre and without disks it's cheaper than just rolling your bike in the front door.Knows where I can have this done,
I was under the impression they squash it with some sort of hydraulic press.Knows what they do when they "roll" a wheel,
Well, I hit a 4x4 piece of timber on the Tulla freeway, got some big air (not a bad effort on a ZZR600) and my rim had a distinct ding in it. I was more worried about breaking the bead and having a sudden and catastrophic loss of front tire pressure.Knows why I should get it done,
I seem to recall it wasn't that much, around $100-150 or so. The exact answer would have been in a post on this site, but we seem to have lost it in the great crash of '07.Knows how much it will cost (to the nearest $50 or so).
My Tip> get it done BEFORE you do the respray (because sure as poop it will need doing afterwards).

I also hit 4x4 timber overtaking a semi near Chiltern Vic - my ER5 launched to the heavens...Surprisingly no flat, but it cost me $180 in 2002*- i had a mate in Shepp send it away to melbourne (will hav to check w who)- they rolled the rim - but gave no guarentee's it wouldn't crack - but all is good - although she's superseeded, i still have her and never had a problem...i must get around to polishing it out...

Re: Rolling Wheels - Who What Why?
I didn't see the timber until much too late, rush hour bumper-to-bumper traffic in all three lanes. The wood just appeared from under the car in front and I had a split second to make the decision whether to dodge (ok, try to dodge) or sucker my arse-cheeks to the seat like a killer giant squid and try and ride it out. I chose the second...or maybe it just happened. In hindsight I did the right thing, I hit it square-on and we went straight over (the back wheel cleared it completely). If I had tried dodging the thing I would have ended up in the lane next to me without the bike and probably wouldn't be in a fit state to type this.Possum wrote:I also hit 4x4 timber overtaking a semi near Chiltern Vic - my ER5 launched to the heavens...Surprisingly no flat, but it cost me $180 in 2002*- i had a mate in Shepp send it away to melbourne (will hav to check w who)- they rolled the rim - but gave no guarentee's it wouldn't crack - but all is good - although she's superseeded, i still have her and never had a problem...i must get around to polishing it out...
