A rough few days
Woke up Monday morning with a slight stomach ache.
Did usual routine, ate breakfast, went to work but really started to struggle.
Had to come home early (bad luck hey), then my wife rushed me off to hospital.
A short but painful wait in emergency, diagnosis, Acute Appendicitis.
Admitted on the spot, filled full of drugs and out it came.
Spoke with the surgeon the morning after, he said it was gangrenous appendicitis.
That means it was as close to a rupture as you can get, but with infection already present.....
Bloody sore.......
Anyone else experienced this?
Coming good slowly now.

Re: A rough few days
many years ago, my brother complained for a couple of weeks about his sore stomach, but mum made him go to school anyway (he was a bit of a faker..)
One day school rings to come get him. To shut him up, mum took him to our doc, who says "I think its appendicitis, but its not in the right area...."
They open him up and find.....nothing. A normal appendix. On a whim the doctor looks on the left side and finds a SECOND appendix at rupture point.
he always has to be different....

sweet merciful crap, ouch!
Never had to be opened up in the belly, hope i never have to be. Missus has already had hers taken out so that's one less thing to go wrong in the future for her.
But two?

I was luckier. I went to hospital with suspected appendicitis. While I was waiting to go to surgery I got a bit better and they eventually figured it was the chocolate mud cake that I had for my birthday...shouldn't have eaten so much of it, but then it was goooood.

Re: A rough few days
Daughter complained of a stomach ache from no particular area, just generalised tummy pain. We thought it was constipation (she says she's too busy to go to the toilet) and basically fobbed her off for a couple of days. Third day, no improvement so I took her to the doctor's. Did a blood test, got a phone call at approx. 6pm, the gist of which was "get her to the Royal Childrens' NOW". Took her there (about an hour) and they were waiting. Straight through into the Triage area, an hour or so later she was in out of surgery. It was on the point of rupturing, pretty gross by the sound of it. Lucky girl and lucky dad. Three nights in hospital later (myself included, she didn't want me to go home) all over.

Re: A rough few days
Apparently, if they rupture, you can basically suffer as if you have been poisoned. Your belly region basically gets all the shitty bits and is no good for you.
If you are a little suspicious of your appendix, you have to get it checked and pretty much taken out regardless.
They are only a little, useless excuse for an organ, but if they become gangrenous, inflammed or acually rupture, you don't wish that pain on anyone!!

yep...green 10 its called peritonitis (spelling) and is the infection of the abdominal cavity, can be caused by the appendix rupturing, many bowel problems, crook surgery, and stab wounds...its quite horrendous for the sufferer and can in many cases be fatal .
SOOOOOOOOOOOO, glad to hear you caught it in time.

Re: A rough few days
i had an appendix once, Appendix A to Annex 2 to Chap.......oh, not that kind of appendix
when i had mine out as a kid, i got 3 lots of adhesions from the surgery. the first lot almost killed me
, so its not always the appendix you have to worry about. on the upside, i was climbing trees 3 days after the appendectomy
