To make a long story short, I wasn't able to ride my bike for nearly 4 months, did quick ride sat and then a alightly longer one today (still only about 10km)
I was meeting the other half in a carpark so I decided to practice figure of 8's as I feel like a complete newbie on the bike, and it felt weird.. but I'm not sure if it was me or normal..
Bike idles around 1000, but it seem to want to take off, as soon as you let any throttle out it snatches and wants to go, riding in a straight line, with no throttle, it actually accelerates, albeit slowly (2km in about 50m - 17 to 19 in 2nd I think it was) and doing figure 8's i had to keep feathering the clutch to keep it a steady speed without accelerating.
So is it just I've forgotten as it's been a while or is it really doing something weird?

Re: Bike holding increasing/speed?
Is your throttle cable tight? It may be fine when the bars are straight but when you turn them you could be stretching the cable which in turn causes the small acceleration.

Re: Bike holding increasing/speed?
sorry I didn't specify, the 17-19km increase was in a straight line, so turning or straight didn't differ

Lubricate throttle body and cable........
Sat for a while so probably a bit stiff, the reverse of me if I sit for a while!

Sticky injectors due to stale fuel maybe... just a thought.

Re: Bike holding increasing/speed?
Hi TTC
Firstly check the coolant level , also the coolant has not been replaced in the past 2 years or so it might pay to get it flushed and replaced.
So what the hell does coolant have to do with fast idle i hear you ask?
Being an EFI motor , the ECU has a number of inputs one of which being the coolant sensor (separate from the instrument gauge sender) When the engine is cold the bike will run to cold start (fast idle / enriched mixture) mode upon start up then drop down to it's normal (base idle) as it warms up.
If there is a problem ie low coolant , contaminated coolant , faulty thermostat / sender itself , the bike can revert to it's cold start mode as the
ECU may be getting the incorrect signal.
May not be your bike's issue but a good /easy starting point.
Hope it helps
