A twist in the ole trye dilemma...

It seem I am fast approaching another set of rubber, and the question is what to get. I know what I want, but the 06/07 10R takes a weird profile rear tyre.

My aim was either Dunlop Road Smarts, or more probably the Michelin Road 2s. However, the 10 requires a 190/55-17, and these tyres are only sold in 190/50-17 which makes the bike turn in slow. I have tried jacking the rear end up, but still feel the rear profile needs to be 55.

It seems my choices are:

Continental Sport Attack - I've not heard anything on these

Bridgestone BT16, multi compound as were my previous choices comments here appreciated

Dunny Qualifier - shit in the cold, shit in the wet (or the OEM tyre was). Don't know if these will fair any better

Bridgestone BT 02 possibly too soft in the centre?

Dunlop Sportmax GP-A medium hard rear and soft medium front might work? Doesn't look like it will be much cop in the wet though

At this stage I'm thinking BT16, but advice from people who have used them, or those with set up advise from other Gumby owners would be greatly appreciated.

Recently put a set of BT016 on my 07, 10. Vast improvement on the Dunlops (8,000k's) that came off.... I guess I probably won't get 8K from the 016's, but I'll enjoy whatever I do get a whole lot more.........

On previous bikes I tried different brands compounds etc, but I kept comming back to Bridgestones........

This time I didn't bother looking at anything else when they were due, just went straight for the Bridgestone............

Only my opinion not based on any scientifc facts.... although MotoGP has agreed and made them compulsory

You will chew them up pretty fast but they stick good.

speaking to a tyre rep today, his exact words were "each manufacturer measures from different points. "

i had an M3 rear on the 10 and it had about an inch gap to the hugger.
i put on a rennsport rear, same size 190/50/17, it was about 5mm off the hugger.

they are the same manufacturer.

just stick on they tyre you want to try and ride the farker!

Just don't want to end up spending 8000k on a tyre I don't like. I don't mind the M3 grip levels, they wear Ok, but the turn in is so slow compared with the OEM Qualifier.

Just go and buy some PR2's FFS Mike! You know I cane mine in the turns and they grip and steer great, plus give me 9-10k from a rear!! Just put them on and follow Wattie's advice will ya!!!

i wouldnt say the M3 is an excellent tyre, its good, but not that good.

couldnt get my knee down on it on the way to PI (my leathers dont let my leg stick out much further thant he crash,) but i did manage to scrape the fairing...

As per my first post, this is the main tyre I'm considering, it's just the 50 Vs 55 profile issue. Will go to the toy shop tomorrow and see what's on offer.

the 08 10R has the 55 rear as well. ive recently replaced both tyres with bt016's again, however i couldn't get the 55 for the rear and had to go for the 50. i was told the same thing, that it would turn in slower. i'm no track day superstar by any means, but i couldn't really feel a difference with the lower profile. i think the bt016 is a pretty good tyre, got about 10k out of the rear and about 13k from the front (the front was nearly a slick though). the only prob i have found is the rear wears pretty quick in the center if your commuting on them.

PR2's held up really well at Oran Park today and worked well riding home on greasy roads yesterday. As Hoffy said Power front will steer a little better but Im happy after a bit of track work today with the Road front

they are both about as grippy, but power is quicker steering and chops up easy, but road2 is slower steering but more stable and lasts longer.

I have done same day back to back comparo's on these, and they are both good in different ways
