Re: improving skills
get a 10, then you dont even need to change gears!
I agree with what was said above about going very fast between corners. It really achieves not much apart from having to break heavily when hitting the next corner, and if it isnt a road you know well you will be stuffed.
Also take heed of the reccomended speed signs. Some 25km corners are serious hairpins while other 25km corners are alot less sharp and 35km corner may be quite fast. I guess this is just pointing to the obvious, have a slower ride on the road and get to know it a bit before pushing it.

very true, going slow or just cruzing on a road you dont is the most important. I have seen alot of roads where recommended speeds should be completely different. first time i went up the old road i was so cautious going through each bend. didnt even get past brookie b4 i turned around and went back up the hill. Im still slow as anything, but the more riding you do the more you get used to your bike and the way it will react to your commands.

Re: improving skills
Thanks for all the responses from everyone. I'm just going to take things steady and learn the skills. Time on the bike is the best experience so I guess I'll just have to get out there
