Hi Guys,

Got a computer running Windows Vista and now getting the message 'Windows need to install driver software for your PCI Memory Controller'. Why do I need this and should I install?

Thanks

Have you recently added/removed any hardware, new software or any changes to your computer?

No - nothing new at all. Computer is only used for emailing / internet / Word - very basic stuff - by my very elderly Dad in Law.

well... essentially it depends on what device its trying to install.

First question is, what type of computer is it? like is it a brand name like hp/dell or just generic. Finding drivers for these machines is relatively easy...

And are you sure of the wording of the message? Doing a quick google suggested that message can be rather generic, you may not notice any problems ignoring it, however depending on what device it is, you may get a small amount of instability.

Do you have it set up for automatic updates ?
M/Shaft have just rolled out Service Pack 2 for Vista - this carries a warning about it disabling certain drivers.
Remove the update by rolling back to an earlier set up.
